Xiaomi Mi 5 to be released in the fourth quarter of the year?

A couple of months ago, in January, Xiaomi announced the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro, but it didn't unveil a successor to 2014's Mi 4. However, this successor should be launched this year anyway, most probably under the name of Xiaomi Mi 5.

According to GizmoChina, the Mi 5 could be released in the fourth quarter of 2015, thus more than a year after Xiaomi introduced the Mi 4 (which is available to buy since last July).

While there's no official word on what features the Mi 5 will bring, the new handset could have a display of around 5 inches (possibly 5.2 inches). Since the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro both sport 5.7-inch screens, Xiaomi probably doesn't want to launch another similarly-sized flagship this year, that's why we assume that the Mi 5 will come with a ~5-inch display.

Recently, Xiaomi CEO and co-founder Lei Jun posted a photo - seen above - showing various prototypes of current (or older) Xiaomi handsets, including the Redmi Note, the Mi 2, Mi 3, and Mi 4. He also said that Xiaomi tends to make five or six prototypes for each smartphone before the final version is ready, and perhaps that's why we'll have to wait until the fourth quarter to see the Mi 5.
