Verizon slashes the price of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA PLAY to $99.99
Nowadays, there are a host of things that handsets need to bring to the table in order to be deemed as a worthwhile high-end smartphone at $199.99 on-contract. For starters, we expect handsets to feature things like dual-core processors, the ability to shoot in 1080p, and at least packing along 4G connectivity of some sort – these are things that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA PLAY lacks.

Surprisingly enough, the handset just received one fitting price chop from Verizon that manages to place it more in line to what its specs perceive it to be nowadays, which so happens to be a mid-range device. Priced at $99.99 with a 2-year contract now, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA PLAY just might see more life with its gaming centric purpose – especially now that AT&T is on the verge of releasing their own model. But more importantly, the adjusted price undoubtedly fits perfectly with its regarded mid-range specs.

Previously at $200, it definitely was hard to see this one competing against the likes of the Motorola DROID X2 and even Big Red’s trio of 4G LTE smartphones. Still, gamers all around might now be able to take the plunge.
