Telus tells us to expect the Apple iPhone 5 up north on October 1st
A leaked document from Canadian carrier Telus tells us about an October 1st launch date for the Apple iPhone 5 up north. The documents, seen by the guys at BGR, includes launch dates for other devices and all seem like solid dates. However, we must take into consideration that historically, Apple has had the iPhone rolled out on a Friday evening and October 1st will fall on a Saturday this year.

As always, it is expected that the Apple iPhone 5 would launch first in the States. However, if there is a change this time, we could see the unit simultaneously launched in both the U.S. and Canada. The guys at BGR say they have seen an internal Telus document that lists the October 1st Apple iPhone 5 launch date for the carrier along with release dates for other models. Because the dates for these other phones match what BGR says it has heard from its sources, it would seem to clinch the validity of the document. As far as a Saturday launch is concerned, one of BGR's tipsters adds that it is the busiest day of the week for mobile retailers and that it is not "unrealistic" to expect a Saturday launch of the Apple iPhone 5.

The iPhone has a larger market share in Canada than the US. I think it is due to the fact that the iPhone is available on all 3 major carriers in Canada plus a number of subsidiaries and other carriers. We use GSM mostly unlike the US where CDMA is used by a number of carriers. I wonder if this influenced Apple's decision to release it earlier in Canada than the US.

Canadians have always been complaining that we get products much later than other countries. I'm glad that this is not the case this time around with the iPhone.

Larger Market Share???

Sorry ... no.

The population of Canada could fit into the state of New York.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

It is all about money ... that is why Canada is later versus earlier.

There is a larger percentage of iPhone/iOS users in Canada than in the U.S. I don't mean total phones. I mean the percentage within the country.

If you are talking total phones, of course the US has more since it has almost 9 times the population of Canada.

Again, its all about the money.

Okay, so relatively speaking more Canadians have an iPhone.

As a business though ... do I sell 5 iPhones to Canada or 1000 in the US? I may be exaggerating a bit, but you get my point. A business is going to sell where it has more customers first. Canada will always be last. I mean no disrespect, I was raised in Canada, but the population counts speak for themselves.

How about you troll somewhere else. Or maybe perhaps get a life. Either one of those options would suffice nicely.

I think you need to Google the population of Canada and the population of the state of New York.

You might even surprise yourself ;)

(I am not talking about land size ... I am talking about people count)
