T-Mobile branded LG G5 starts to receive Android 7.0 update OTA
T-Mobile subscribers with the LG G5 are excited tonight, Why? Because the update to Android 7.0 is being pushed out. Weighing in at 1.27GB, the files include Android 7.0 along with security updates. The only Android handsets to run Nouget, outside of the Pixel duo and the Nexus models, are the Motorola Moto Z Force DROID, HTC 10 and now the LG G5. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edgecan only run a beta version of the update for now.
Android 7.0 adds the Split-screen view allowing you to run two apps at the same time; with seamless updates, the next Android build is subtly sent to your phone and installed. When you boot up the handset next, your phone is running the updated OS. Remember Doze? This feature is improved in Nougat. Doze stops apps from running in the background when the phone has been unused for a period of time. This increases the standby time of the phone and improves battery life overall. Unicode 9 brings the latest in emoji, and Google Assistant is a more personal and conversational version of Google Now.
When you do get the notification that the update has arrived, make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi signal before continuing. This is a pretty large file and you don't want to consume your data when a Wi-Fi signal is probably available at home or right around the corner at the local bookstore. Also, make sure that your battery is fully charged, because you don't want to be halfway through the update when your power goes off.
