Motorola Photon 4G vs HTC EVO 3D: your opinion

Motorola Photon 4G vs HTC EVO 3D: your opinion
Now that we've extensively compared the Motorola Photon 4G and HTC EVO 3D, it is your turn to pick the device that you believe is better. Is it the brilliant Photon 4G, which marks the long-anticipated return of Motorola at Sprint, or is it the glorious EVO 3D, with its lively, three-dimensional screen? If you ask us, one can never go wrong with either phone, due to their top-end specs and quality execution. Plus, those who are really into 3D will probably pick the EVO, while the ones who prefer longer batter life will favor the Photon. So it always boils down to personal preference, when we have two equally-wonderful handsets. However, it would be interesting to see which one is more desired by PhoneArena users.

Alright, time to vote!

I was never a big fan of Moto aside from the razr series and although the Photon doesn't look bad, HTC's never done me wrong. I'd go with the EVO 3D. I have a feeling that after Google's acquisition I'm going to like moto products a lot more though.

I like both phones. I own the HTC Evo 3D, but I have extensive time with the Motorola Photon 4G because my good friend owns it. When I am checking out his phone, he checks out mine. I was pleasantly surprised that said that Qualcomm's S3 possessor with Adreno 220 GPU was in fact the better chip set compared to NVIDIA's Tegra 2. I felt that way from the moment I grabbed the HTC Evo 3D. Everyone always said that Qualcomm's chips are the worst, & I am glad has set the record straight. My friend always said the HTC Evo 3D played the games VERY smoothly, just like his Motorola Photon 4G. I noticed no difference when playing games on his Photon 4G, compared to my HTC Evo 3D. Also I have rooted my device & I don't have any Sprint bloatware EXCEPT the Sprint Football App. That app is SICK! My phones now is even smoother & better than it was & my friend agrees. I also love the fact that my phone is ready for custom ROMS that are cooking right now as we speak. I can't wait to install CM7 & also MIUI. I can't wait to see how beastly my HTC Evo 3D will be when I overclock to 1.8 or 2.0 GHz. There is just so much more support & potential for the HTC Evo 3D that it made the choice that much easier. The Motorola Photon 4G is a sick phone too, it will get the attention from the developers that it deserves!

i don't know why PA said such a thing. we know it's not right. we're not just bagging on HTC or anything it's just from the pure facts that we're saying Qualcomm didn't make such great processors these past couple of years. i mean seriously, everybody that has some knowledge of mobile processors and aren't completely enamored by HTC has figured it out be it from benchmarks or by knowing even a little about what they are but i'm not dissing your decision or anything, it's not the one i would've made because i'm so hyper critical about potential lag but the EVO 3D is still a pretty nice phone. i actually like it's body better than the Photon's. i personally think the Photon looks tacky but it has more useful features and that's what matters to me. i totally understand your excitement. i can't wait for the Droid 3 to get rooted so i can overclock that OMAP4430. i'm gonna create a monster. ;D

i have the evo 3d but in all honesty i like the design of the photon. i know it kind looks ugly in pictures but when you see it in real life its one sexy looking phone

i've seen dummies and i didn't care for the glossiness. i like a simple matted look and a few years ago i had an LG Dare which has chrome accents like that on it and they wore off after a year or so of normal usage and ever since then i've been wary of chrome accents on anything that i'll use with my hands a lot and the Photon has some chrome accents plus i've seen noticeable scratching on the kick stand on 3 separate occasions which is a big no-no for such a new phone.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the Motorola Photo 4G looks bad at all. I think it looks GREAT, but I happen to like the HTC Evo 3D's design a little better. Ohh Thump3rDX17 thanks for the explanation on the chips on the other article, I feel way better informed right know! Dude I can't wait to overclock my HTC Evo 3D, I want that bad boy anywhere between 1.5 to 1.8 GHz as my everyday phone running CM7 or MIUI. I love the Motorola Droid 3, I got it for my Mother & she can't get enough of it. She is now a texting terror. lol You were right about the new blur or skin on it, it's pretty nice. I don't think I will root my Mother's phone, but you need to let me know how the Droid 3 is when you root it! :-)

anytime man. the Droid 3 really is a great phone, THE one for the power texters out there, the only thing i think it could use is more RAM. it's a shame the Droid 3 is the only Motorola with it's version of the M.A.P. (Motorola Applications Platform, i took the liberty of abbreviating the name for future use) it's really a nicer interface. i actually got to look at a real Photon today and it grew a little on me after using the real thing but it still doesn't feel as good as the Droid 3. oh and funny story, when the Sprint rep was telling me about it he said it had a 2.1GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon. i lawled mentally. xD i will. you know we'll have to stack up when we do. ;D

I had a 3d. I won a free photon, used it for a day and switched back to the 3d. i really like HTC sense, and i really didnt like the way the gallery was set up in the photon. the photon had better signal quality, and battery life. My personal preference is the 3d, however the photon is an amazing phone. if it did things a little differently with the contacts and gallery it would be a perfect phone in my opinion.

As someone who works with a Sprint retailer and has used both of these phones extensively they are great phones in their own way. However, I have experienced more lag problems with the Motorola Photon than the Evo 3d and where the 3d may only have dual 5mp cameras versus the Photon's 8mp, the shutter lag on the Photon is AWFUL! It takes anywhere from 2-5 seconds to take a picture and the lag can really get in the way. Plus the camera modes on the HTC are far better and more varied. If it came down to it I would take the HTC Sense UI over Motoblur and the camera lag.

if the Photon had gotten the more polished interface that's on the Droid 3 you wouldn't see evidence of lag, especially considering it has twice as much RAM as the Droid 3. it's a shame that it didn't get it. i will say HTC does have the best cameras in the Android game from the interface to shutter speed so i wouldn't say the Photon has BAD shutter speed it's just HTC really excels in the camera department which may make it look that way when comparing the two phones but they're both fine shooters.

I like the moto webtop, but 3D Evo w/ HTC Sense bets all

I own an Evo 3D and I do not care in the slightest about any of its 3D oriented features. I have no complaints about the device whatsoever. I will only regret owning it when whatever iteration of the Galaxy S II hits Sprint and I'm unable to purchase it due to upgrade eligibility. I think that will be the first device that trumps the raw power in this HTC handset. As for the Photon, I've had plenty of hands-on with the device, and outside of the Motoblur overlay jazz (which I actually like a lot) there's nothing else about the device's capabilities that impresses me. I think people knock the Evo 3D because of its gimmicky premise and the way it was marketed, but the truth is it's just a turbo charged device with 'cool kid' coating.

I owned both phones and I ditched the EVO's utter garbage. The poor antenna signal, and black screen of death happened to me. I't was always dropping calls. I love sense, but there is an app that makes the Photon look and feel like sense. Samsung, and Moto are the Sprint champions. Also may I say that the speaker on the 3D sucked, and so does the screen compared to the Photon....The 3D has......"well it has 3D"...and a smoother sense over lay that's it. The EVO 4G was a better phone that the 3D function wise....great antenna strength, better speaker volume bigger screen, put that 3D processor in the 4G and I am in. I owned the EVO 4G and the 3D so I can say this truthfully

why'd you guys keep your launcher over the 3D in the comparison?

19. irad unregistered

Both Motor and HTC are great android phone makers, but HTC really messed up with the sensation, so I guess the 3D is better, but it doesn't compare to the photon...

The Photon is Sprint's best smartphone right now. If you go by processing power, Quadrant scores, camera quality, signal strength, gameplay, screen size -- the Photon wins. My buddy's EVO 3D is no slouch and it's plenty fast, it's got a nice screen, games and the internet look and play just as well. I think the 3D is gimmicky. If you care about signal strength and using your device as a phone -- the Photon wins hands down. Consistently gets stronger signals and more bars than the EVO 3D, EVO 4G, Epic 4G, EVO Shift, and Palm Pre in my family anyway. I have little doubt that the Galaxy S II (Epic Touch 4G) on September 16 is going to be the new king of the hill in terms of raw speed and features. I'm waiting to see if it'll have a crap antenna though. If the signal strength on the Epic Touch isn't good -- I will gladly keep my Photon. It's a phone first - everything else is secondary.
