Huawei P30 Pro to feature curved AMOLED display complete with notch
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro's curved AMOLED display and notch

Huawei first dabbled with curved AMOLED displays earlier this year with the arrival of the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design. But it wasn’t until the Mate 20 Pro that the company took these panels mainstream. And now, according to a reliable industry source, it seems the premium displays are here to stay.

Following in the footsteps of the Mate 20 Pro, it’s claimed that next year’s Huawei P30 Pro will feature a curved AMOLED display produced by either LG or BOE – the two companies that presently manufacture the Mate 20 Pro’s panel. However, unlike the company’s soon-to-be-announced Nova 4, this device won’t feature a display hole. Instead, it’ll stick to the more common notch.

At the moment, the only OLED display manufacturer capable of creating display holes in its panels is Samsung. And, as is only natural, the South Korean giant is reserving these displays for its own devices. Thus, companies such as Huawei have two choices in the meantime – either stick with the controversial notch or choose an inferior LCD panel.

Now, if next year’s P30 series is anything like the P20 or Mate 20 lineups, the regular Huawei P30 could arrive with an LCD panel. This means that, while the premium P30 Pro may make use of a notch, the regular P30 could easily opt for a futuristic display hole. A design feature that would allow it to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.
