Did you know: there are over 18,000 Android devices available today

Android is the world's most popular phone platform, and a lot of that popularity is due to the tremendous variety in devices that it offers. There are so many Android phones, it is practically impossible to keep count for anyone except for Google itself.

Now, in an internal memo to employees regarding the recent legal spat with EU over anti-competitive practices (Google says it has a strong case against this), the company revealed that there is a total of more than 18,000 Android devices available today.

18,000 Android devices are available today, most of them from phone makers you haven't heard of

What a mind-boggling number, isn't it? Looking at our own database of Android phones, you'd see hundreds of phones from Samsung, and tens from first tier phone makers like HTC, LG, Sony, etc. What’s really interesting is that the large majority of those 18,000, however, are actually phones and brands you have probably never heard of.

That overwhelming presence of the ‘other’ category on Android is what is the true base for the company's recent marketing push to advertize Android as the platform for those who want to ‘Be together, not the same.’

In the meantime, we also attach the full internal Google memo to employees regarding the EU legal clash right after the source link.
