From the leaky guts of the Chinese blogosphere an alleged iPad Air 2 appeared today, mere hours before Apple takes the stage to mark the official announcement of the next generation in its tablet line. As you can see, the TouchID fingerprint scanner is a go, and the iPad Air 2 seems indeed extremely thin. Rumors are that it might turn out to be the slimmest slate out there, though we have a hard time imagining how an aluminum-crafted slab would be able to slim down below Sony's record 0.25" (6.4mm) of the Z2 Tablet, and still house a decent battery capacity. Apple's engineering has been able to pull off such stunts in the past, though, so let's wait a few more hours and see.
Apart from the more compact chassis and the new fingerprint reader, the iPad Air 2 is expected to sport a faster, A8X 64-bit processor, and an improved 8 MP rear iSight camera, alongside new software features. Apple will be staging the event shortly, and you can rest assured we will be relaying all the festivities and announcements to you in real time.
