Back from the dead: Nokia Lumia 1520 relaunched by AT&T, Windows 10 on board

Back from the dead: Nokia Lumia 1520 relaunched by AT&T, Windows 10 on board
This November, the Nokia Lumia 1520 will be 3 years old - an eternity in the world of smartphones. Nevertheless, Microsoft and AT&T recently breathed fresh life into the device by updating it to Windows 10. Surprisingly, this prompted AT&T to quietly relaunch the handset, which was discontinued in April 2015.

Unfortunately, the AT&T Lumia 1520 is now too expensive for a phone of its age: you can get it for $19.50 a month for 30 months, $24.38 a month for 24 months, or $584.99 outright. That's not to say that the smartphone won't serve you well, but we're having a hard time recommending it when there are plenty of newer, more powerful handsets that you can currently get for around $600 (and even less). Moreover, you can purchase an unlocked Lumia 1520 from Amazon for around $300.

If you still want to buy a Nokia Lumia 1520, you'll get features like a 6-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a good 20 MP PureView rear camera, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of expandable storage space. Interested?

It's things like this that show the better side of a company, just a little bit.

Price is a downer though.

Price is the only downer? The 32 bit SD 800 with 2gb of RAM, 16gb of storage, 1080p display is the other downer. For that price you can get a much faster 64 bit mid range device with the same resolution or even higher with more RAM and storage.

$600 for a snapdragon 800, 2GB RAM. Microsoft is determine to put themselves in Apple price bracket. Not surprising but Microsoft don't have the same fanbase like Apple do. Deep pockets consumer that know little about geek stuff therefore not actively looking for bargain. Microsoft fanbase are mostly geek and do look out for Microsoft to occasionally throw a bone. You will be surprised I do have a number of Microsoft accessories that I got for a song.

Can you point to the benefits of having a 808 processor, instead of a 800 (on a wp device, of course)? Is the call quality better, you get the mails before they are written or maybe the display responds better when touched?

The newer we offers close to 1Tflop processing power while using the same amount of power as the 800. When transcoding video it's only take a fraction of the time sd 800 would. Wait is there a video transcoding app in WP? Any way you are free to buy whatever you like. I won't pay $600 for yesterday's tech period.

So you can't. Anyway, what is the exact value of that fraction and why would you transcode videos on the phone (I have yet to do that and I'm using smartphones for about 8 years) when a PC can do things way better.

1520 would be a beast. But with WP and really poor sound card it is useless for me. WP10 was no imprevement, maybe a downgrade (except for wallpaper) to be more specific. Overall Note2 still crushes 1520.

exactly price is still the downer, even in your own comment.

You can find this phone new for sub-200 on eBay. While it's a good phone, maybe even the best Windows Phone ever made, you'd have to be dumb to buy it for almost 600 bucks.

You forgotten to mention that it is also the phone, still today, with the longest battery Life.

You gotta be the biggest Microsoft fanboy to tell everyone this phone has the best battery life even today.

That's because you won't use the phone other than to check the time or reboot after Windows 10 freezes.

How many such phones are brought back from the dead, across the spectrum of operating systems. That shows the confidence of the provider on the performance of the device with this operating system. I'm so happy to read this news because, last December, I bought a preowned 1520 for USD176/-, updated to Win 10 a couple of months ago and I've no complaints......not fully error or bug free, but the fluidity blows me away. And I'm sure future updates will iron out those bugs too. From a proud Lumia 1520 user.

OK the 1520 runs smoother than the 950XL, has the same camera ( and better camera apps due to the nokia suite that isnt allowed on the 950xl.. >.< ) and its a phablet at 6.41 and has a better battery. NEW phones aren't running much faster now than "old" phones. Like PCs the specs are outpacing the software and WP has always done more with less hardware anyway.

It doesn't have the same camera or the same flash.
