Apple is making it rain with the iPhone XS Max pre-orders (poll results)

The iPhone XS Max costs a Benjamin more than the XS for the basic version but is a no-brainer for those who don't mind larger handsets. This is why we asked you last week if you are ordering the real status-bearer of 2018, or will be satisfied with its top-notch compact contender, the XS.

Pre-orders started on Friday, and only a third of our 1506 respondents said they are going with the XS. Considering that the XS Max is likely to push the iPhone's average selling price to unforeseen heights, this bias towards the Max can only be good news for Apple, which will probably shatter revenue records this quarter and the next.

The XS Max is the iPhone with the largest screen Apple has ever created. Granted, its 6.5" diagonal is a bit misleading compared to the 5.5" iPhone 8 Plus, as that last one is with 16:9 aspect ratio and doesn't have a notch, but still... The XS Max has the obvious advantage of the larger screen before its smaller, XS sibling, and perhaps better stereo speaker spacing that will result in more immersive sound, but it also has some significant drawbacks.

Women, in particular, have been complaining about the Max-ed out handset, as their jeans and other pockets are sewn much smaller than in men's clothing. We've no idea why is that an issue with the new 6.5" iPhone all of a sudden, as Apple's previous Plus models are exactly as big, and have found their way into many a purse or clutch, but the fact remains that the iPhone Max is quite large indeed. Still, that's the one people seem to be going for, at least this early in the new 2018 iPhones game.

The iPhone XS or the larger XS Max, which one are you ordering?

I think I'm ordering the Oneplus 6T when it comes out - Apple has really pushed the price up too high. 5G will be out in a year so for me, it's too much to spend on a short term device. Hopefully, I'll be OK with Android.

In which country are you? In Spain the prices are the same as last year’s iPhone X, well that’s for the regular size iPhone XS, I don’t see a raise in the price, actually that can’t happen since the regular XS is priced equal to last year’s iPhone X on their official website and that’s worldwide, I know the XS Max price is ridiculous but since I’m not a fan of big phones, I don’t really care, I’m buying the regular size one, but anyways, the XS Max will be bought by a lot of high income people, rich people will always get the best their money can buy

The XR in Canada is $1029 for the base model. That device is so not worth what Apple is asking, especially when you see the device has too many low end specs to be worth anywhere near their asking price.

If new iPhone specs are low end - what do you call every android device - all are much slower!

I know thinking and reasoning is hard to do for many folks, but try to comprehend that some of the lower priced Androids have many things that are actually better than the iPhone XR. For instance I can buy an Android smartphone for around $300 CAD that has dual cameras, supports 4k video recording and it can do wide angle shots. Something that iPhones don't do. Plus the display is a full HD+ resolution (1080x2160) which is superior to Apples HD+ (828x1712) resolution. There is no 3D touch or finger print scanner on the XR, but you have a finger print scanner on those low priced Android smartphones these days. It's funny iPhone users can't even throw around and use that resale value crap anymore. Especially when you are losing way more than the price of low priced Android smartphones every year. Just look at the iPhone X in Canada you lose $640 after one year, or more than $450 in the US. That's not including all the taxes you have to on top of that money you initially laid out. Apple is officially a joke these days.

Canadian's love their iPhones eh? http://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile/canada Apple 53.9% Samsung 26.8% LG 5.3%

Your right. Thats why Apple adds the extra screw you charge on top of their iPhones. Because if you want an iPhone. Then what's your option? Apple knows this as well. So I guess you are proud of Apple f$_#-@g their customers wallets?

I suggest enjoying whatever phone you have an let the iPhone users enjoy their purchase using their hard earned money. Why are you so butthurt about Apple's prices when you're never going to own an iPhone?

Because he’s jealous that apple has always the best selling phone every year since forever and Samsung is flopping hard lately, he’s annoyed by happy and unbothered iPhone users, also he feels insecure and threatened because people prefer a phone which he hates because it represents or is a symbol of everything he can never and will never achieve in his life, this brand and phone is a major source of frustration and pain for him because he knows deep in his heart his a big failure to him and his relatives and for some reason Apple triggers that feeling inside him

I've seen lots of women using the Plus sized models, so I believe the XS Max is not a big deal size-wise

I can't wait to see if you Note haters say how a large phone like the iPhone max is just the right size. I bet now that Apple is making large phones this is just how all phones should be sized..... Large...... Popcorn and I. I personally love Apple and their technology however they always seem to copy Samsung the last 3-4 years with larger phones that iPhone Arena said were too large to handle.... I will love to hear if they say that the larger iPhones are just too big to weild....No hate intended ifans

The thing is Apple is only copying the physical size of Samsung and other large Android smartphones. However Apple has not coppied or provided any phablet functionality on any iPhone what so ever. These new iPhones are still just larger iPhones without any benefit that other phablets offer. If you have a note. Then you also have a stylus and real multitasking with split screen multitasking. There is even special pen functions. The iPhone XS Max is just a larger screen and that is it, with no phablet functionality. What a waste of money.

I ordered the 256GB variant of the XS Max to be my work phone. My personal phone will always be a OnePlus device.

Well, your iPhone Xs Max has dual-sim support. Shouldn't your personal phone be iPhone Xs Max with 256GB as opposed to 1+ where you can still use the phone without being pesked by customer calls & messages?

No, the work phone is a Verizon (CDMA) carrier and is locked. My personal phone is AT&T (GSM). So, dual SIM is pretty much useless for me. Besides, I like having an iOS and Android phone.

Android butthurt about apple prices. Now its your turn to get iphone SE for the cheapest apple experience. Meanwhile, I ordered Xs Max 512 gb Gold and series 4. The integration of apple devices are the best user experience. Look at that iphone 5s, it will still be usable and can smoke out some android 2018 phones because of software support. Some android products only receive security updates but not OS updates. Where’s the value in there when your android devices last just for a year.

I agree 100% with you if you are someone that keeps your phones for the long run Apple makes a much better product because of software updates. Not only do you actually get updates but you get them on day 1. You can update that 5s tonight to ios 12. With Adnroid first off you have to see if your phone will get the os update and then you will wait months. I have had Android phones but also lease my phones so I just replace them every year so I don't run into this issue.

Better software does not equate to a better product. However Apple is unrivaled in software updates and product support period.... I always admired that..... Total user experience.

Software can ruin what is otherwise a good product though. That being said Apple makes nice hardware as well especially in the processor department.

Guess since I'm not single and living in my mom's basement, I can count myself out of buying a new xs. Sucks being in the real world and having priorities. Disposable income is nice, but some know how to spend it wiser.

It is called responsibilities. Not everyone can afford this phone doesn't mean those that can shouldn't get one.
