Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 no longer prevents Windows 10 for Phones preview from loading
According to a tweet from Gabe Aul, General Manager OSG Data and Fundamentals at Microsoft, a problem that prevented some Windows Phone 8.1 users from receiving the Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview has been cleared up. Aul's message tells Windows Phone users that if they have been stymied in trying to load the preview, another attempt should allow it to be downloaded and installed on their handset.

Late last month, Microsoft announced that it had expanded the list of Windows Phone models that can handle the Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview. The list included even the most basic of Windows Phone models, the Nokia Lumia 530. To no one's surprise, the list includes models like the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Nokia Lumia Icon.

The latest Technical Preview for Windows 10 for Phones was sent out on Friday, and requires that the phones not supported by the first Technical Preview to load Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2. Unfortunately, the latter triggered some sort of problem on Microsoft's end that prevented certain models from moving on to Windows 10 for Phones.

Aul has given the "all clear" sign, so those who were affected should try again to load up the latest Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview.

The only thing preventing me from buying a windows phone is app support. Other than that, the OS itself is magnificent. It will replace both Android and iOS once they get them apps.

If believing that makes you happy, go ahead. Won't happen though.

Windows 10 for phones has been awesome. I love the improvements they made. They just got rid of a few features, which is annoying but I am sure they will come back. It has really hyped me up for the official release, so I can put it on my main phone.

How do you like the aesthetics, they seemingly trimmed down Metro, how is the comparison?.

It's odd. They combined the two, and even though they look disjointed in pictures, it is really good in practice. It's obviously going to change, like the action center needs a refresh. One thing I don't like is that they took away the picture in the tiles that they added in 8.1. I would bet money it will be added on later, but right now it's a disappointed. And for a pre-alpha, it is running quite well, not as bad as other people claim. It may be because I have using it a lot and it has settled down, but either way I am very satisfied.

Not to bad, 1020 some things are a little small and you dont know if you pressed a settings icon at times. But aesthetics its turning out great. Like he stated, its a mashup of the old metro and new stuff. So far no complaints other than things that arent finished really.

ive had some issues like that on my 1020, restarting it usually a few times has fixed it at times. I dont know if it uses my data plan because i have unlimited, but sim settings wont turn on my data, but my data plan still works even with out wifi so not sure if it is a toggle bug or what. Bluetooth is hit or miss. My keyboard with mousepad bluetooth did connect and work really fast.

this below beta software folks if you have problems report it through your insider hub you are front line testers and have to be strong as iron an endure the OS you are testing but also do not be shy in reporting something is wrong with the test build i will try the next test build of Windows 10. I have been through this before on my Lumia 928 when windows 8.1 was up for insider testing it worked pretty good once they got some bugs fixed

You must mean developer testing.
