WWDC 2014: 10 things to expect

Apple’s 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is about to start in mere hours, and expectations are that this will be a big event for Cupertino. After all, we've heard Apple’s software and services head Eddy Cue say earlier that "later this year, we've got the best product pipeline that I've seen in my 25 years at Apple."

Does this mean we’re about to see that much talked about ‘new category’ of devices (iWatch?), or the much hyped new iPhone (or iPhones)? Some of you might also remember that Apple has not unveiled a major new product since late last year with the iPad Air. Even though that’s correct, Apple is not necessarily expected to unveil new devices today. That does not mean it won’t happen, though - after all, this is Apple we’re talking about, the company that loves a good surprise more than anything.

However, let’s not forget that WWDC is first and foremost a developers conference, and focus on the more likely announcements. We’ve already seen the signs with the 8 sign, a sure symbol for the upcoming iOS 8. After a major redesign in iOS 7, the upcoming new 8th version of Apple’s mobile software is projected to bring a couple of new features and add some polish to existing ones, while keeping the same colorful and simple design of last year’s version.

We take a deeper dive at all the new features that could come in iOS 8 right below, as well as other likely new announcements by Apple. Join us below, as we recap the 10 big things to expect from WWDC 2014.

The Siri/Shazam integration is the only feature I found of this list that is useful/not in Android/WP

Idk about using Shazam. But Google now has been able to identify the songs or music your listening too, by simply asking what song is this. Takes only a few seconds.

WP has this functionality and it is only 2 clicks; click search button, click music icon and in a couple of seconds it identifies the track. It has had 100% record so far but I have only used it around 5 times.

I didn't know, since Android/WP have alternatives already, that makes it worse for apple bringing it so late to the table, but I guess better late than never for the iFans. As for all of us - thanks for telling me :)

all three of them copy form each other.... now android should copy a few things from the others....i want to see translucent, blurred google now cards( with the home screen wallpaper as the background), blurred translucent notification panel, folders within the app drawer(apple's home screen is just an app drawer isn't it?) and an ios like control center on android....and i wish google now answered some funny questions like siri and cortana.

Apple does not necessarily innovate (anymore) - rather, it is the PERCEIVED notion of quality perfectness and/or innovation that Apple instills in its customers. And they are very skillful at that. In this sense, that latest research on iPhone users is quite enlightening: "3. Apple owns their entire system." Apple has also become one of the most protective and closed companies I have ever seen. In comparison, Microsoft's behaviour is more akin to an open source company. "4. Apple focuses on a select group of products." Yes, although they are leaving the group of people whom Apple could rely on when things weren't so rosy-looking only a couple of years ago: designers. They are far more focused on products that possess mass appeal now, rather than any specific elitist group. Good or bad? I used to be a huge fan of Apple. Until a couple of years ago, when the focus shifted to selling the same old empty designs again and again to the masses. In my opinion Apple lost its soul. Perhaps I just like small companies that actually innovate - Apple IS wearing no clothes; they just say they do, and the masses follow. They were innovative, alright: propaganda is innovation. Lmfao.

its apple...some people underestimate them and some people overestimate them....and in the end, the real winners are the owners of tech sites , they make a lot of money from all this.

They should start the resurrection of Steve Jobs.. Make a hologram of him presenting new Apple products. Just to let him do his thing again..I miss his speeches..

Apple is good but they should stop so many lawsuits against samsung over trivial matters like the latest. It shows to a certain degree that they are threatened by them.
