Sony has something interesting to show us on March 18 - the day, on which it has scheduled an official press event, and we think we know what might be coming. Rumor has it that there's a couple of smartphones currently being developed in the company's workshops, one of them being called the Sony Xperia SP (model C530X), also known by its HuaShan nickname. We've seen photos of the said smartphone already and now we're being presented with what looks like an official render of it.

The yet-to-be-announced Sony Xperia SP belongs to the mid-range smartphone category with its 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 system-on-a-chip and 1GB of RAM. Gracing its front is said to be a 4.6-inch display with resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. Allegedly, the smartphone also has an 8MP Exmor RS main camera, 16GB of expandable storage, and a 2100mAh battery.

Overall, pretty good for a mid-range device, although only a thorough test will show whether the Sony Xperia SP is worth one's time and money. Perhaps it will be suitable for those who fancy the Sony Xperia Z design, yet aren't willing to spend too much on a handset. We should know more about the device in 4 days' time.
