New "epic" Honor smartphone will be announced at CES 2017

Honor USA today revealed that a brand new "epic" Honor smartphone will be officially announced at CES 2017 on January 3. There aren't too many details about the upcoming handset, but the teaser image that we can see below strongly suggests that the device features a dual camera - similar to the Honor 8 released this summer. Also, there's no doubt that this phone will be sold in the US.

Earlier his month, Honor launched a very interesting smartphone in China - the Honor Magic (seen in the slideshow below), which sports a dual-curve display and also has a dual rear camera. While we can speculate that the Magic, or a similar device, is coming to the US, we must note that there's absolutely no info suggesting that this will happen. But this would be pretty cool, right?

At the moment, Honor is officially selling only two smartphones in the US: the Honor 5X and the aforementioned Honor 8. Both are affordable unlocked handsets, and we're assuming that this is also going to be the case with the third Honor phone that's coming to the US. We could also assume (and hope) that the new handset will run Android 7 Nougat out of the box.

Lately I've been trying to decide on purchasing the Honor 8 or the Axon 7. The only thing preventing me from getting the Honor 8 is the Kirin 950 and the EMUI 4.1. Nougat is supposed to improve EMUI, but the Magic phone is to come with the 950 also. Hopefully the next Honor phone comes out with the 960.

The Kirin 950 is awesome, no problems. I don't game but that's probably the only experience that appears differently. Performance is great in the Honor 8, nothing ever lags. IMO, EMUI is not as bad as so many make it out to be. It has some quirks yes, but so many additional functions as well that are like no other.

My P9s Kirin 955 is really nice, I just don't like the thought of downgrading my CPU. My P9 is going to my wife since she takes more photos than me. I personally dislike EMUI alot. I added the Google Now launcher which helps a bit, but everything else bothers me.

I ve had the Honor 8 for 4 days, and I never felt that it was slower than my S7 and Note 7, it has enough power to get you through all your tasks without any hiccups. EMUI is really great, and all the cons I found in it are getting fixed with EMUI5. As I said before, same reviewers who bash it are the ones who praise the simplicity of iOS. The Axon 7 is a great device with a very average camera, so if camera isn't a deal breaker for you, go with the Axon 7, or else, the Honor 8 is the better overall device.

It's hard deciding on a new phone. I love my P9s camera, which makes me want the Honor 8. But in terms of everything else the Axon 7 looks like a better choice. I'm going to wait another few days and see what CES brings to the table.

I was in exactly the same boat, deciding between the Honor 8 and the Axon 7. In the end, I went with the Axon 7. The big reason for my decision was the metal vs glass body. The Honor 8 looks really, really nice but I've read that the body is prone to scratches, and that would drive me nuts. The Axon 7 is a really great device so far. Fast and fluid, really nice screen. Good battery life. The speakers are a nice bonus. All in all, I enjoy the device a fair bit more than my S7 edge. The two real downsides are the camera and fingerprint reader. The camera is decently good in nice lighting. It just performs poorly in low light. The fingerprint reader is just a tad slower and tad less reliable than I like. Nothing major, but enough to be noticeable.

Id say the same, if camera is not important the Axon is going to be a better fit more than likely, it is a much better media consumption phone.

I'm looking forward to it! Some sources are saying that it would probably be the Honor 6x.

I hope it's not the 6x. It was released here in the UK in October. I messed around with it in the store and the Kirin 655 is definitely slower than the 955.

I'm going to get my Honor 8 in the next week or two. I've really been impressed with Huawei of late.

I bought the honor 8 on sale in Canada in a sale, it cost me around 400 CAD (~300 USD) which also included some freebies (Newegg gift card, cover, selfie stick, power bank and addition charger). the processor, still image camera, and battery are great, the video is okay, but no 4k shooting. The kirin 950 CPU matches the SD820 but the GPU is almost one-third of the SD820 performance. honor uses a hald the resolution (1080 vs 2k) which reduces the difference, it even has a 720p mode for better battery and gaming performance if you want. I only have it for almost a week but so far I am very impressed with the device. I would recommend the device if you can find a good deal on it.

Probably will be the magic for US and Europe with the new kirin or snapdragon 821.
