NVIDIA will soon update the Shield Tablet and Shield Portable to Android 5.1 Lollipop
A couple of NVIDIA's forum administrators recently announced that the company is gearing up to update both the Shield Tablet and the Shield Portable gaming console to Android 5.1 Lollipop, currently the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

The NVIDIA Shield Portable, which currently runs Android 4.4 KitKat, will be updated straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Although the forum administrator didn't mention a specific time-frame, he did mention that "It won't be much longer" before the update rolls out.

The NVIDIA Shield Tablet currently runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, meaning that the 5.1 Lollipop update shouldn't significantly alter the user experience. According to the forum administrator who made the announcement, the new update will solve performance and responsiveness issues that got introduced with the 5.0 Lollipop update. Compared to the 5.0 version, the 5.1 flavor of Lollipop brings only a limited number of new features, focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements instead.

The Shield Tablet will be updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop "in the coming weeks", meaning that NVIDIA's gaming tablet could end up getting 5.1 Lollipop before Google's own Nexus 9. If you find this to be a little on the strange side, feel free to sound off in the comment section below!

I bought an HP Slate 7 Extreme, which was an affordable NVIDIA tablet at that time. Although now it's running 4.4 Kitkat, I still do hope they would include it in their update lineup.

I wish this site got a chance to review the tablet.

I wish nvidia would make a gaming centric phone and push out updates like this. Now that would be a real treat indeed.

Any body who has a TEGRA 4 or K1 processor in their device should be able to get the update as NVIDIA decides to give OEMs permission, HP may or may not update their tablets to Android Lollipop, based off of when HP is added to the supported OEM list. I do think that it is unlikely that HP, even if they are given lollipop update permissions, will not update their slate tablets to android lollipop. After-all, HP is not well known to push out updates to their devices. I hope that this helps you understand about HP updating the Slate.
