BlackBerry Classic specs leak, along with new images
The latest specs for the BlackBerry Classic have been outed. The device is equipped with some old-school features such as a trackpad, and function keys. A traditional BlackBerry physical keyboard is on board. Originally named the BlackBerry Q20, CEO John Chen decided to capitalize on demand for legacy models like the BlackBerry Bold 9900. In last year's third quarter, of the 4.3 million units sold by BlackBerry, 3.2 million units were BlackBerry OS 7 models.

As far as specs are concerned, the BlackBerry Classic features a 3.46 inch square screen with resolution of 720 x 720. Speaking of old school, under the hood is a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon MSM8960 (S4 Plus) CPU with 2GB of RAM inside. 16GB of native storage is included, and for those requiring more storage, a 128GB microSD slot is on board. An 8MP rear-facing camera is featured, with an aperture of f/2.2. The camera that adorns the front is 2MP. A 2515mAh battery keeps the lights on.

The BlackBerry Classic is expected to be unveiled next month, and go on sale in time to capitalize on the holiday shopping season. With the BlackBerry Passport available for the business focused power user, the Classic will be aimed at long time 'Berry users who miss the functionality of older models, but want to have BlackBerry 10 powering their handset.

I wonder why is john V doing the BlackBerry reviews when is Alan F. The one who always cover BB news. I bet this will happen again with the classic. Something Phone arena should fix if they want to win some respect.

Why such an old processor?!?! This will drag this thing right down the drain. I was gonna not buy the Passport and check the specs on this, but I guess that went out the window. No "power user" is going to be satisfied with an S4 Plus processor.

You and I agree on that one, Doug. The BBOS7 holdouts are going to love this phone and be all over it.

The Classics specs are as expected. Anyone thinking that this handset is underpowered due to the processor is mistaken. BB10 flies, even on lesser power. The Classic is not a handset intended to be of "flagship" material. It's intended to draw in the BBOS7 holdouts that missed the functionality of the "tool belt" and track pad. This phone is going to sell extremely well amongst enterprises and BlackBerry's large installed base that's still using a BBOS7 device like the BlackBerry Bold. All we need now is for pricing to be reasonable, and BlackBerry will have a hit amongst it's intended market.
