Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular grabs 80% of model's pre-orders, topping 30% forecast
Brokerage firm KGI Securities, home to quite possibly the best Apple analyst in Ming-Chi Kuo, had predicted that only 30% to 40% of  pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 3 would be for the cellular enabled model. This is the variant that doesn't need to be paired to an iPhone to connect to the internet, make/take calls, and send texts. The rest of the orders, predicted Kuo, would be for the non-cellular Series 3 timepiece.

But judging from the data collected since pre-orders began on September 15th, it appears that this time the highly regarded analyst has had to change his estimate. Kuo now says that 80% to 90% of pre-orders will reserve a unit with cellular capabilities. Initial shipments arrive on September 22nd. Orders placed today for the cellular model will be delivered in 3 to 4 weeks, October 2nd for the non-cellular version.

Pricing for the Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular starts at $399 and $429 for the 38mm and 42mm size respectively. The non cellular timepieces are priced from $329 for 38mm, and $359 for 42mm. For those who are happy with the older Series 1 Apple Watch, prices begin at $249. Apple Watch Series 2 has been discontinued.

I think this would be obvious.... Apple watch buyers have apple watches, if they are to upgrade it won't be to the very similar Apple watch 3 without cellular, but the different (unique) Apple watch with cellular capability.

True, but the interesting thing is that they are upgrading period. Remember, Apple Watch was doomed from the beginning all the analysts said.

Lol, no analyst said that it would fail and they all praised and pushed it along with the full force of the media. They did say it won't be as successful as the iPhone which is what iFans kept saying, so they were right about that.

No kidding. Off the top of my head, I can name at least three websites who attempted to call the AppleWatch a failure, only to backtrack as soon as those trusty revenue reports started rolling out. Apple fans, at least the ones I've heard from, don't really even care about Apple products outside the major three (IPad, iPhone, Mac). Needless to say... I have no clue where he's getting that nonsensical opinion from.

Smart-Watches are doomed anyway. BS. Period. The only ones that could be still sold are Apple Watches - because of the brainwashed ifans. And Samsung watches- because they are last tech and the best, though. But it will not last for long. The future is in the smart-bands. Slim, beautiful, cheap and functional(not only fitness trackers), that don't mess up with the real, posh watches. Mark my words.

Larger price discrepancy I think. The 1 is now the budget while the two is pretty much a 3. I'm interested but still don't see how I would use it.

As it should, otherwise you're just getting a Series 2. This isn't a shock at all.

You'll want to return it the moment you realize you cannot send and receive sms and mms by itself.

Stop it with the false advertisement. The apple watch cannot send text (sms and mms) without being tethered to an iphone.
