Acer to announce a Windows 10 smartphone at MWC 2015, plus a new Android-based Jade handset
While Acer is far from being one of the world's leading smartphone makers, in the last few years the company (best known for its laptops and desktop PCs) has constantly released various handsets, most of them running Android. Acer also made a few Windows Mobile smartphones (before Windows Phone existed), but those weren't exactly successful. This year, however, Acer will try its luck again - with a Windows 10 handset.

According to Focus Taiwan, Acer will announce its first Windows 10 smartphone at MWC 2015 next week. While there's no word on what specs the new smartphone will have, we heard that the device might be a low-end, or mid-range one.

Of course, since Windows 10 won't be properly released before summer (as Microsoft still has to polish the OS), Acer's new Windows-based handset is expected to be available starting the second half of the year.

In addition to announcing a Windows 10 handset, Acer also plans to unveil a new Android smartphone from its Jade series at MWC next week, plus a new wearable device. We'll let you know more about Acer's upcoming products as soon as they're announced.

P.S.: what you're seeing above is a mock-up based on the Acer Liquid Jade S (which in reality runs Android, not Windows, as our quickly made mock-up is suggesting).

I feel some type of way with this. If Acer will announce a windows 10 phone then darn it MS better too. I don't want to hear an announcement about more low end wp8.1s

I'm with you. Microsoft is low ending Windows Phone fans to death and more realistically to other OS. I know from experience and I won't go back to WP until a true flagship is released and is readily available without leaving consumers to do all the work of unlocking or importing the darn thing from overseas. No more exclusives Microsoft!

On low end WP, Microsoft just releasing phone with 1gb ram model so there wont be no limitation on apps that require 1gb to run it. High end WP are coming soon with Snapdragon 810, 3gb ram i think, and higher screen resolution after they finish Window 10 for phone. Just keep your eyes on MWC event.

I had no problem going to newegg and buying a 930, and cheaper than my z3 too. Point being if that is to much work, then well nothing to say. People put more work into getting launchers to their phone to work correctly than clicking buy. However, looking forward to a 1020 replacement if ever, my 1020 isnt 'old' and does everything i want, without a single hiccup. However it has been some time.

Microsoft is just going to continue to ruin themselves in the mobile phone industry if they don't step up soon. I'm all for other companies making good phones, but c'mon, would you rather have the PURE form of Windows on a high-end MS phone, or one with bloatware and crap on a high-end phone by a different company? The choice is obvious.

Eagerly waiting for it. Also waiting for LG and Samsung to make me WP's.

I am patiently holding out for now. My Nokia Lumia 928 from Verizon running Lumia Denim is holding its own at the moment. The addition of TileArt has breathed new life into my handset. I've gone through my photo library, created several .png files, and it's pretty cool. Seriously speaking, WP has proven to step outside of the box, and lead as opposed to follow the competition (Design wise at least). My contract is up in May of 2015 hence why I can hold on a bit longer. I certainly understand the frustration expressed by 920 owners. Their handsets are on the brink of three years. If there is one lesson I have learned, it is to buy my next phone out right. No more contract jail time for me.The carriers respect you more that way. This was my experience as a Sprint customer for 11 years. As for now, I am complacent. My need for a Flagship is not steep enough to force me towards android or iOS. I do hope Microsoft releases a flagship soon because the waiting game is torture.
