$90 Matrix One tablet now on sale, comes in pink too

Despite the geeky name, the Matrix One is not a tablet that would be featured in a sci-fi blockbuster movie. Quite the opposite – it is the slate that bargain hunters would be interested in due to its $90 price tag. That's 10 dollars less than what the tablet was expected to retail for when it was unveiled earlier this year.

Of course, one should not expect to get much in terms of specs for that amount of money. The base Matrix One model comes with 1.5GHz processor, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card. For $40 extra you can have the RAM doubled up to 1GB and the storage capacity increased to 16GB. Android 4.0 is pre-installed on the device, and a microHDMI output allows it to be hooked up to a TV.

For a tablet that can be purchased for less than $100, such a specs sheet does not seem all that bad. Sure, we'd still recommend considering the $199 Google Nexus 7 tablet instead, but if junior has been getting on your nerves asking for a tablet for himself, the Matrix One could be the right choice. Also, it might be suitable for a custom, in-car entertainment solution or a similar DIY project. What would you use a $90 tablet for? Let us know down in the comments.
