Mercedes-Benz integrating Siri in its A-Class, coming to B, C, E series this Fall
Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will integrate Apple’s intelligent voice assistant Siri in its A-Class vehicles. Natural language voice commands will be in the very core of the German maker’s A series infotainment system.

Now, we don’t exactly know what is the level of Siri integration, but it seems certain that you’d be able to make calls, dictate text messages and schedule appointments without having to look off the road. The system will work together with Mercedes-Benz’ Digital DriveStyle App which will beam notifications and apps to the infotainment system screen. The German car maker is the first to bring the cloud-based voice assistant in its vehicles.

The new infotainment system will land in the Mercedes A-Class at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show in a month. This Fall it will make its debut on Mercedes’ fancier B-, C- and E-Classes in Europe.

Another distraction for those in the driver’s seat or a helpful time-saver helping you concentrate on the road? Let us know what you think about having Siri integration in your car cabin.

Applying Siri to cars is a good idea I think.

I wonder how much money MB threw at Tim Cook to make it happen.

Plenty, I am sure. But it is a mutual opportunity for both companies - Mercedes gets to capitalize on a trend and get one of the better voice AI software options in their cars, while Apple gets to break their services into a new market where they would otherwise never be involved (car manufacturing).

This is arguably better for Apple than it is for Mercedes. Due to the cost of buying a car alone, Siri would be a cool feature that separates Mercedes from other manufacturers, but wouldn't alone convince someone to buy the car. For Apple, if successful in providing AI technology to the car industry, the opportunities to provide software/technology services to companies in other industries might blow wide open.

You can integrate Apple SIRI with your older Mercedes using ViseeO's MB-4 Bluetooth Upgrade Adaptor. This unit is free installation and allows you to launch SIRI assistant directly from your Mercedes console keypads! Here is the video demo:
