You still can't have the AirPower, so why not get the Belkin Boost Up wireless charging dock?
Technically, you can wirelessly charge your iPhone XS, XS Max, iPhone X, 8, or 8 Plus using any type of QI-certified accessory. But Apple only recommends a trio of chargers from Mophie, Belkin, and Logitech, currently sold directly by the Cupertino-based tech giant for prices between $39.95 and $69.95.
Starting December, Apple Stores worldwide will offer a fourth option at a significantly higher $159.99. Unfortunately, we’re not talking about the company’s in-house AirPower, which appears to be indefinitely delayed following a 2017 announcement.
The Belkin Boost Up wireless charging dock is far less eye-catching from a cosmetic standpoint, while also keeping things pretty simple in the capabilities department. But there’s nothing wrong with simplicity and convenience.
Instead of promising to revolutionize the market with a versatile “mat” design, this bad boy combines a pair of good old-fashioned charging pads where you can prop up your compatible iPhone and Apple Watch.
The swanky new Boost Up wireless charging dock is theoretically capable of charging three devices at once, but the third one will need to use a conventional USB-A port. Built specifically with the iPhone XS, XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 in mind, the peripheral supports 7.5 W wireless charging for Qi-enabled handsets, 5 W speeds for the world’s best-selling smartwatches, and 5 W/1 A USB-A technology.
A 3-year warranty aims to offer “added peace of mind”, with a 45 W AC adapter included for “instant setup”, and absolutely no problem charging through “most” phone cases up to 3 mm thick.
If $159.99 feels too rich for your blood, Foxconn subsidiary Belkin also plans to release an “updated” PowerHouse Charge Dock with “enhanced” support for Apple’s iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR.
This is priced at a much more reasonable $99.99, coming in November to “select retailers” nationwide with simultaneous iPhone and Apple Watch charging functionality, but no wireless support for the former. You’re still desperate to see that AirPower commercially released, aren’t you? At the very least, know that it’s still happening. Give us something, Apple.
