Xiaomi Mi 6 in the works as company runs poll on potential specs

With the Mi Note 2 and in particular, the Mi MIX, it's fair to say Xiaomi has thrown the gauntlet down to its rivals. The company is not only looking to edge above its compatriots like Huawei, ZTE, Oppo and the many other Chinese giants, but it's clearly taking aim at the Samsungs and Apples of the world. After an exhausting four flagship handsets in four weeks, the company has already begun to think about what's next, and has opened dialogue with fans as to what the eventual Mi 6 should entail.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is just over six months old, and includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4 GB RAM and a 5.15-inch display. The new Mi 5s is rather similar, but includes a slightly larger battery and the newer Snapdragon 821 chipset. Next time around with the Mi 6, the company may look to take a different direction, and has asked consumers for their opinions on specs and key features.

The questionnaire gives fans three options for the Mi 6. First on the list is a Snapdragon 8xx-powered model with a 20-megapixel camera, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and a 'light metal body'. The second device would offer daul cameras with OIS, 4 gigs of RAM and 64 GB storage in a 'curved glass body', but it would be powered by a Snapdragon 65x SoC instead. The last option suggests another Snapdragon 65x-powered effort that would again included dual cameras, but no OIS. There would, however, be 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and a light metal body like the proposed Snapdragon 8xx model.

Just which configuration the people will choose remains to be seen. Whatever happens, though, it's likely to arrive at a very agreeable 1999 Yuan, or just under $300. If the current Mi 5 is anything to go by, the Mi 6 will be released around February-March of next year.

We'll keep you in the loop regarding any further info, so stay tuned.

I love the Xiaomi Mi 5, hard to beat. The Mi 5S violates some of my top criteria - compactness and battery life as it is a bit bigger and heavier than the Mi 5 as well as offering a bit less battery life although it is still well above average. I would like to see the Mi 6 go back to the Mi 5 form factor with comparable battery life. However, I can't see them equalling the incredibly light weight of the Mi 5 - a mere 129 grams!!

129 grams is light as woman phon.e, or gay one. I prefer 150-170grams. Even not so slim as gayPhone, but to have better battery.

Phonearena - please stop the full page ads. How can you guys keep doing this to us? It's completly ridiculous that I have to press close on every one of the laggy ads that come and cover my entire monitor. How can you guys live with yourselves? This is horrible for any website to deploy. I used to come here and be able to surf easily. Now, I have to turn on adblock in order to avoid potentially clicking some stupid ad that is not only completely unrelated to the content of this site, it's just simply intrusive. Phonearena - you guys are going to lose a lot of visitors and members of the community if you don't make a change soon. No one wants to deal with this BS everyday. You guys always stress how you have to pay the bills correct? Well, we HELP you guys pay the bills even with less advertising. How about you HELP us? Can't believe this is needed to say.

My sugestion: 5.5" 1080p bezel-less AMOLED unbreakable display, 12mp dual 1.55µm (or more µm) câmeras, EIS (gyro), snapdragon 830, 4500mah battery (with the new technologies, they can do it), dual front-facing speakers, waterproof, 6gb of RAM + 128gb standard + micro sd slot. That would be awesome.

Wow...a company that's interested in what it's consumers want? What a concept. Hopefully they continue with this mindset because we need a new top dog in mobile - apple and Samsung have lost their way and both should be put to sleep.
