Sony certainly has an extensive smartphone lineup planned for early 2019. Aiming to compete in the low-end and mid-range segments, the Japanese brand should be releasing the Xperia L3, XA3, and XA3 Ultra in the early new year. These will then be followed by the Xperia XZ4 flagship and the smaller XZ4 Compact, as revealed by a new set of renders.

Despite using a pretty curvy design on the Xperia XZ2 Compact, Sony appears to have reverted back to a much more angular look on the upcoming model. This creates the illusion of bulkiness but, in actual fact, the provided dimensions confirm that this new model is almost 3mm thinner than the current device.

Taking a look at the front panel, Sony has once again chosen to fit the device with an 18:9 display that sits somewhere between 5 and 5.2-inches in size. Despite the tall panel, though, a pair of pretty huge bezels, at least by today’s standards, can be found above and below the display. These are home to the front-facing stereo speakers.

In regards to the rear, the Xperia XZ4 Compact resembles some of Sony’s more recent mid-range offerings by positioning the camera and LED flash in the top-left corner. Unfortunately, though, no information about the sensor included has been provided. Same goes for the selfie camera up front. On a separate note, it’s worth noting that the device comes equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Alongside these renders no specifications were provided. But if Sony’s release history is anything to go by, the Xperia XZ4 Compact should be powered by Qualcomm’s newly-announced Snapdragon 855 paired with at least 4GB of RAM. Additionally, 64GB of internal storage and Android 9 Pie straight out of the box are to be expected.
