Moto Z3 seemingly receives Android 9.0 Pie update with 5G support (technically) enabled
Did you know you can already buy a 5G-capable smartphone for Verizon use... sort of? It’s true, the Moto Z3 has been available for a good five months now, typically fetching a more than reasonable $480 and occasionally going much lower with the carrier’s convenient device payment plans.

Then again, while Verizon was the first in the world to roll out 5G home broadband service, its next-gen mobile network still needs a little last-minute refinement. As for the Moto Z3, the Snapdragon 835-powered handset can’t actually reach 5G speeds without the help of a separately sold Moto Mod which is not available for sale just yet.

But Motorola seems to be carefully laying the groundwork for that no doubt impending release, enabling 5G support on the Moto Z3 from a software standpoint with a new update

This brings a whole lot more to the table, though, including this month’s Android security patches and, most importantly, Pie goodies. While the Z3 is technically the brand’s latest flagship model, official Android 9.0 updates have already been delivered to the lower-end Motorola One, One Power, Moto X4, and G6 Plus.

It definitely could have been worse, and Moto Z3 owners could have been kept waiting even longer, as so often happens with carrier-exclusive phones. That said, it’s unclear if the rollout is underway at the time of this writing or if you still need to give it a few hours.

While waiting, it might be a good idea to free up some storage space, keep your battery fully charged, and manually check to see if the update is available by accessing Settings, then System, and finally System Updates.

Everything from intuitive new navigation methods to an improved Do Not Disturb mode, a more colorful settings menu, revamped split screen, adaptive battery and adaptive brightness functionality, quick settings improvements, enhanced audio controls, new and updated emoji, general performance boosts, and beefed-up power efficiency is coming to your Moto Z3 as part of this massive, highly anticipated Android 9.0 Pie update.
