Analyst predicts that the iPhone 3GS will be priced at free when the next iPhone debuts
Even though we’re all curious about the next version of the iPhone, there are some out there who are probably more attuned in learning about Apple’s plan of action to attack the other end of the spectrum – the low end market.

Well, RBC Capital Markets General Manager Mike Abramsky predicts that Apple will finally be on the market with a free smartphone when the next version of the iPhone arrives. Specifically, he claims that Apple will be selling the iPhone 3GS for free with an accompanying 2-year contract, which should hopefully prove to be combat the surge of low and mid-range Android handsets. Moreover, Abramsky believes that this logical move would double Apple’s market to approximately 150 million smartphones.

As we all know, AT&T still holds ownership to the iPhone 3Gs, which is evident by the advertising spots that continue to air on television. Although Verizon is now selling the iPhone 4 and appears to be on board with the next one, it’ll be interesting to see if Apple will grace them with a similar version of the iPhone 3GS.

You could not be more wrong. The Apple 3GS is a 600 MHz processor phone. Almost all low to mid-range Android phones have 800 MHz to 1 GHz processors now. These low to mid-range Android phones run Froyo or Gingerbread, so they are much more capable than an Apple 3GS. Heck they are just as powerful as an Apple iPhone 4. Plus with the new iOS update the phone will slow down so much. Hey it's awesome if you want outdated tech. You can use it as a free paper weight, heck even a coaster for your beer that lights up with some psychedelic colors! Lol So there are useful things the Apple 3GS is good for! I am getting a free one so I can have that bad a$s coaster! I will always know where my drink is at all times! lol

The LG Optimus says hi. Probably the best selling recent low-end Android phone around and it's just a 600 MHz. Nice just spouting a bunch of crap like a true fandroid though.

wow you just showed your inteligence with that comment.... times have showed us that only geeks care about specs.... i know people that will choose a free iphone 3gs than any 2 year old android phone.... even if both are free... but I guess trying to pass a smart person gets the best of you.. lol..

Yea i agree isheep will always choose the iphone over any android, i bet if apple gave the older 3g for free isheep would take that 2yr contract just to have it.. its an isheep thing.. doesnt make the phone any better though....

I am not talking about 2 year old Android phones you moron, I am talking about right now. If a person gets an iPhone 3GS & compares it to a new Android low end model they will be PO'd because they will most DEFINITELY see that their phone is inferior. Only an iSheep like your self would even go and make a comment on someone’s intelligence. If a person just did a second of research they will see that even free that phone is not worth it. Your iSheep brain doesn't give people credit for being smart. Only a fool or a broke person would get the iPhone 3GS because it's free. For $50.00 you can get a low-end Android phone that does more while it's turned off than the iPhone 3GS does while it's on. So gallitoking you just showed your intelligence on how puny your iSheep brain really is!

jajajaja only geeks like your self care about specs.. i dont give a damm about specs... Apple advertise well there products...I rarely see an android phone being advertise.. at first the xoom was adevertise but now what??? they gave upp on that already and Apple doesnt..... even on 2 year old phones.. remeber one thing.. u geeks.. are minority .. u dont represent the average consumer... aahhh did I hit a nerve...

Ok gallitoking you hit a nerve. Wow so your intent is to hit a nerve? Well how do you feel? Is your iSheep brain only capable of that? lol I feel so bad about this that I didn't sleep well last night. I stayed up all night so I can now respond to your comment. It's funny that the Android OS dominates the mobile world without advertising. Imagine if Android used some of the money they spend on making their OS the best, on some advertising. So maybe Apple should take a page out of Android & spend some of its ad money on making a new iOS instead of the same dry iOS but with an Android like notification system. lol "aahhh did I hit a nerve..." lol

Another thing if you don't give a damn about specs, why are you on This website ONLY just talks about specs & gives news on phone related articles. A true person who doesn’t care about specs would never register to a phone blogging site & put their 2 cents about topics like this. They just wouldn’t give a damn as you say. Not only do you talk crap, but you are a fool too. Nice try on being benevolent, but you are only a lying hypocrite! lol"aahhh did I hit a nerve..." Seriously?lol WEAK bro! lol

there's some pretty crappy low end androids right now. Regardless of specs they run badly because of low memory and bad memory management

agreed.. cant even play angry bird!

Yes the low-end Android phone from the time of the Apple iPhone 3GS couldn't play Angry Birds. NOW the low-end Android phone can play Angry Birds & so much more!

Yes you are right taco50 BUT those are the old low-end Android phones. The new low-end phones are actually phones with good specs, good RAM, & good memory management. So get your facts right. A low-end Android phone from the time of the Apple iPhone 3GS, there is no comparison BUT if you are on the market NOW & had a choice for a new low-end Android phone or an over 2 year old free Apple 3GS the choice is clear. The $50.00 new low-end Android phone KILLS the free over 2 year old Apple 3GS. People will be upset when they get their Apple iPhone 3GS for free & see how inferior the phone is compared to a brand-new low to mid-end Android phone running Gingerbread & has a front facing camera so they can video chat. So again taco50 you are RIGHT, only if it was early 2009! lol

u geeks make me laugh thinking that people wil be dissapointed on buying the iphone 3g.. my brother has it and he seems very happy... I have yet met e single person not happy with their iphone 3g...but in your defense there are not geeks like you two ladies

yeah it's great. If you like only having 8Gs of memory that can't be expanded, if you like being obligated to itunes for: music, updates, backing up your phone, etc. A less durable and customizable phone. And spare me...there is no such thing as FREE with and apple product. Apps=$. Tech support=$ Music=$ Apple only accessories=$ They advertise free but you never 100% own that 3GS..

Oh WOW!! How did you come to this conclusion!? It's $199 brand new in 2009, $49 1 year old in 2010, and where ELSE can it go from here for 2011?! What an amazing prediction! Who woulda thought a 2 year old phone would be free by now.

7. Rich unregistered

2 year old phones arent even usually available anymore at this point... let alone STILL carrying a price tag...

This is just stupid. The 3gs is starting to run slow thanks to the new ios update and they want to keep pushing the old ass iPhone as long as they can. I guess they need to compete with Google that bad when Google said they are trying to have low end Android phones replace standerd cell phones like flip phones or anything without ios or Android. But poeple are suckers for FREE stuff and any old free iPhone would make people jump on it because they just would see the 2 words - FREE AND IPHONE- in the same page.

Aww, do I detect jealousy here? An iOS device that's free especially when it's better than most Phandroid devices?

not THE MIZ!!!!!! he is on phone arena lol....but seriously, its too little too late for Apple. i dont know why they havent thought about this 6 months ago when the iphone 4 hit verizon and no one doesnt even think about the 3GS since it hit AT&T almost a year ago. If this was offered in february when the iphone 4 hit verizon, i can honestly say that its worth buying for those who want a decent smartphone for less than the big boys like the Atrix, Inspire, and now the i cant even say if this is worth it except for teenagers wanting their first smartphone from parents who dont want to break the bank for one
