Case render reveals where the OnePlus 7T selfie snapper might be found

Today, Slashleaks posted images of several case renders for a phone from Oppo that has yet another way to get around the notch. Called the Oppo Reno, the phone uses a small wedge like panel that pops out of the top of the device. The wedge houses a front-facing selfie snapper and a flash. Besides the renders, the Slashleaks also has a video showing the device getting handled. This would seem to indicate that the Oppo Reno is beyond concept status and could be released some time this year.

Besides offering a 16MP selfie camera and a flash, it appears that the wedge also includes a front-facing speaker, and is hidden inside the top of the phone until called on. A motor is then employed to bring the wedge out into the open so that the camera, the flash and the speaker can be employed. While the Oppo Reno has yet to be unveiled, rumored specs include a 6.4-inch edge-to-edge-display (1080 x 2340 resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio) with the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform under the hood. One variant of the phone is expected to have 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage, while a second version will carry 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. There is a triple camera setup in back (48MP + 20MP + Time-of-Flight depth sensor), and a 4000mAh battery keeps the lights on.

Considering that Oppo and OnePlus are brothers from the same corporate mother, and that many features first found on an Oppo device end up on a future OnePlus phone, we could see the wedge end up on an upcoming OnePlus model. The OnePlus 7, which is due to be unveiled sometime next quarter, will reportedly be equipped with a pop-up selfie snapper. But later this year the OnePlus 7T could be released, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the wedge used on that phone.

Oppo is currently the second largest smartphone manufacturer in China after Huawei, and the company, perhaps watching enviously at the success OnePlus is now having in the states, says that it plans to expand to the U.S. No timetable for this move has been given, and the company states that it first want to make sure that its business in Europe is stable before invading America.
