BLU Vivo XI+ kicks off surprising Android 9.0 Pie beta program
It looks like BLU Products is indeed turning over a new leaf after achieving mainstream popularity on the US unlocked smartphone scene by essentially releasing a new device every week, then squandering it all away with one too many privacy scandals and a disastrous software update.

The Miami-based company appears to be focusing more on the quality of its (still affordable) phones than the sheer size of its product lineup, while vowing to implement a “comprehensive data security program” under the terms of a recent settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

As for software support, the BLU Vivo XI+ was unveiled back in August with an Android Pie update promise, the delivery of which might be right around the corner. Technically, owners of the AT&T, T-Mobile, and now Verizon-compatible 6.2-inch handset can already run the latest OS version, but only as part of a public beta program for the time being.

Granted, it feels a little late for 9.0 betas, especially when dealing with a smartphone vendor that’s yet to roll out a single such stable upgrade. But you have to commend BLU for trying to change its old ways, even if said change isn’t as fast as could be.

Besides, considering what happened the last time BLU Products made headlines with a software update, it’s probably wise to gather feedback from Vivo XI+ beta testers who (hopefully) understand the risks associated with these types of programs before releasing Pie goodies for everyone.

If you own this phone and want to help out BLU, as well as get an early taste of Android 9.0, all you need to do is register on the company’s official website with some basic personal info and your handset’s IMEI number. Enjoy and don’t forget to stay safe by backing up all your data before downloading and installing the unfinished update.
