New Apple iPhone with 8MP camera could be launched in August
Share:
One change will be internal; the new iPhone will not have a SIM card and will feature both a GSM and a CDMA radio allowing the same unit to be used for both AT&T and Verizon, and with 3-4 antennas, it will be a world phone. In addition, the new version of the iPhone will sport an 8MP camera in the back and be powered by an ARM Cortex A9 processor, using a Qualcomm chipset. The report says that it is not yet known if the processor will be single-core or dual-core.
The next major update to the Apple iPhone, according to the story, will be the iPhone 6 which will launch in the Spring of 2012. That dove tails with an earlier story that we reported, hinting at a Apple iPhone 6 to be launched next Spring, equipped with low-temperature poly-silicon LCD displays made by Sharp, for a thinner and lighter design.

So...the next iPhone will be on par with the Droid X2. Cool!

as much as i hate to say it, the iPhone 5/4S will probably beat out the Droid X2 spec wise. Apple has always been ahead of the game with their cameras and if the new iPhone's camera matches the megapixel count as the Droid X2 then it's pretty much the same as beating it and it'll be a world phone where the Droid X2 is not and the Retina Display is still a little crisper looking than qHD and build quality, to this day nothing has beat the iPhone 4's build quality, it feels so..divine like. now the Droid Bionic or even the Droid 3 on the other hand might be a different story.

Sorry, but did you just dis the X's build quality?
Who here is willing to drop their iPhone 4, unprotected, onto a (carpeted) concrete floor? Anyone?
Okay, now who's willing to (and has) dropped their Droid X, unprotected, onto a (carpeted) concrete floor?
Yeah, did that a gazillion times to make a point to customers. My X is still functioning perfectly.
As far as the iPhone 4 "beating" the X2...it might beat it in a couple of spots, but the major capabilities will still basically be the same. And the X2 isn't the top of the line Android phone at Verizon. Or at least it won't be once the Bionic comes out this summer.

i didn't "diss the Droid X's build quality, i'm saying the iPhone 4's is better. well known fact. you just slap a case on it to protect the glass just like you should have on your X anyway.
the iPhone 5/4S will have the front facing camera (something Moto REALLY should've included in the X2) and it'll be a World Phone, the rest is up to you if you like whatever about either phone better or not but the reality is the iPhone 5/4S will be more phone than the Droid X2 but it's not supposed to be the iPhone 5/4S's stable mate, it's the Bionic or the Droid 3 like i said.

Well known fact? According to who?
I wasn't expecting the X2 to be a world conquering phone. However, the iPhone 4s/5 is THE phone for Apple through at least Q1 2012, so it had better have something more to offer than what is now destined to be a mid grade offering from Verizon.
For what the X2 is supposed to be, I say it matches what the iPhone 5 is currently rumored to be quite nicely.

according to Phone Arena, Engadget and anyone else that matters. we love the iPhone 4's ample amount of premium feeling. you'd be a fool not to agree.
it's an iPhone, you can't tell me people are going to see this as "mid-range" on anyone's line-up. Apple and Moto are making similar decisions between what they've done with the Droid X2 and what's said that they're doing with the iPhone 5/4S. they're keeping the same design and upgrading a few specs, that's all well and good but the differences between the Droid X and it's successor weren't that significant. i played with one and i didn't really notice that great of an improvement on anything. iOS isn't a real cpu demanding platform as i'm sure you're aware and whenever the new iPhones get beefier processors the speed is quite noticeably improved, the same goes for the iPad and the iPad 2. so these kinds of upgrades are much more significant on iOS devices then on well i won't say Android devices because the LG G2x is quite comparable to an iPhone but i will say the Droid X2. we'll see when it's running a version of Android optimized for it's Tegra II but if history serves correctly the iPhone 5/4S won't disappoint from the get go like the X2 has. i'm not that fond of Apple but don't underestimate them, they won't put out a device to be compared to what we consider a "mid-range" device.

I didn't say that the iPhone was meant to be a mid range device. I was referring to the X2. Sorry if I wasn't clear. :(

i like you Sniggly, you're not ridiculous like a lot of people are on this site so don't take this as any kind of peck at your opinion or assault on your intelligence, i'm just showing you my view on the whole thing. the original comment was kind of misleading though if that wasn't the point you were trying to make. o:

Lol, thanks. You're okay. I like you too, Thumper. I respect that you give credit where it's due, even to devices and people you don't necessarily get along with/agree with.
I do still think the X2 has some weight against the iPhone 5, even though the latter will have features the X2 lacks. Especially when it gets Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich. But yes, I was being facetious in my original post. :)

If its an A9 processor doesnt it have to be dual core?

Whatever the case, that gpu in the iPad 2 is a beast. Cant wait to see it come to Android phones.

I'll wait for Steve Jobs... otherwise there would have been a product launch for the 10th anniversary of the retail store as rumored...

If next iphone isn't a dual-core phone, so I don't know what the point of the new iphone is going to be introduced to us while there are so many dual-core phones among the market today.

not 4 'inch screen so bad, it so difficult plays games with 3.5 inch screen.
20. andro (unregistered) posted on 01 Jun 2011, 04:16 0 0
Minimum changes and upgrades, this report sounds about accurate for the new phone. This will change everything again again with a 4 inch screen and a heftier price tag

so apple will wait almost a year and a half to launch an updated iphone 4 only for it to be replaced within 6 months? Unless they want to piss off everyone who buys the 4s/5, they wouldnt do that.

Thinner screen??? Its going to be more fragile now??? Also, 8MP camera and no external memory??? Wow, like always, apple fails.
29. clevername posted on 02 Jun 2011, 04:52 0 1
Why do you need external memory when you have 32gb of storage? Possibly 64 with the new model. I understand 8mp will fill it up but easy sync to iTunes to transfer media and problem solved. Its actually almost as fast to sync and remove pics with the iPhone and iTunes as it is to remove a memory card, replace it and power cycle a phone. And definitely quicker to sync than to remove a memory card connect to a PC and remove the photos then replace it. And if you don't remove it before you do that then its the same as not having external storage anyway.

i highly doubt this rumor to be true. their is no reason for apple to spend money and change their processors when they have one of the best well rounded chip on the market today, including the newer chips (not saying it is the best just, it still has kick in the market of chips) and to use a qualcomm is just sad, the IT OMAP4's would be better to have anyway. (that is strongly opinionated yes) idk i just dont thing that apple would do this, it just isn't them.
