Images of Windows Phone 8.1 start screen leak, showing customizable wallpaper
You can check out everything we know about the Windows Phone 8.1 update. The new build of Microsoft's mobile OS appears to be another step toward putting Windows Phone on a level playing field with iOS and Android. A recent report by Kantar called Windows Phone the fastest growing OS in the world. Of course, a lot of that is due to the low base that the platform is starting from, but it does point to strong growth for the OS, which has captured second place in some countries.

Background image and colorful tiles looks gorgeous.

I don't like this, better real backgrounds with the option to make the tiles transparent!
7. alumoyo (Posts: 312; Member since: 26 Aug 2013)
EXACTLY! Its so simple -but they just don't seem to get it! Those screenshots are really ugly!

Could be worse... Like icons in rows like that MySpace OS..
41. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Nope, you can do anything you want, you can even have tiles on that "myspace" OS. Fail!
And by your biased comments, I assume you never had an Android, even if you say so. Nice try though, troll!
44. papss (unregistered)
Kid I've had plenty of android phones and most were ruined by the OS..
53. SleepingOz (unregistered)
That's why you recently bought a Note 3, right? Then you supposedly swapped it against a G2 since it's better iyo. Yet according to your recent trollish comments, you went back to the Note 3. B*tch please! If you want to lie, at least make your comments consistent.

What are you doing here? I thought you don't like WP.. This is completely WP related.. Why did you even click on the article.. You love WP, don't you?.. Yeah, you really do love WP!!! I knew it!!
73. SleepingOz (unregistered)
According to flawed logic, you really love Android then. And please meg, this is internet! I post where I want. If you're not happy with your incapacity to bring a decent argument, I recommend vaseline.
90. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Then it's settled.. You love WP for life.. Welcome to the club.. See, told you it was great.. See you on the next WP article.. I'm sure you'll be there...
93. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Please do yourself a favour, grow a brain. You making a fool of yourself here. Most of the PA community will agree with me.
76. joey_sfb (Posts: 4758; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
Strange I thought you admit a 4% market share WP OS as MySpace OS.
if you meant a 80% market share Android then you a bit bitter and delusional.
Why does wp fan need to be so defensive in every wp article, you think you can win over any one using this approach. Android is free and its being integrate into more devices making them smart. I am using it as I know its the future so do millions of developers. High end BMW Audi cars has Android integration.
Ex Nokia Vetru phones runs Android despite being pressure by MS and Nokia to run WP. The writing is on the wall. WP is a sunset OS.

Bam! here comes the other troll! Why are you even here?????
8. kozza3 (Posts: 671; Member since: 17 Oct 2012)
yup real backgrounds with transparent tiles would have looked better
12. hurrycanger (Posts: 1545; Member since: 01 Dec 2013)
I totally agree. That would be way better than this.
24. dorianb (Posts: 565; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
I agree. This is probably the result of the software engineers over thinking. I don't think they've heard the term: K-I-S-S. (Keep It Simple stupid)
48. znellu (Posts: 74; Member since: 05 Dec 2012)
There is no enough 'wall' in WP to add a 'wallpaper'. That's why they're implementing such an idea for those who want customization in their devices. And it seems to be good. It'll be odd to place images in between the tiles as it would be difficult to identify the content on the live tiles.
63. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Both options would be nice... It's all about options.. But, MS is getting better.. It's obvious by looking at the list of WP8.1-0xxxx features.
3. Jason2k13 (Posts: 978; Member since: 28 Mar 2013)
so basically windows is just playing catch up, so its natural for it to be the fastest growing OS
42. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Right, when all you're doing is to copy others' features.
64. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
WinMo didn't have Wallpapers?.. Which came first.. WinMo, or Android?... So, you're saying that anything BB had first Android copied?.... You're saying Android copied Symbian?
74. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Weren't you guys calling Samsung and Google copycat for their flatter UI? Ironic isn't it? And yeah, it's sad that both winmo and symbian used to have most of these basic features before yet their supposedly modern os is lagging behind and need to play catch up on competitors.
79. StraightEdgeNexus (Posts: 3686; Member since: 14 Feb 2014)
Well correction not just symbian, basic s40 and s30 phones had support for themes and wallpapers.
91. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Other WP fans?.... Don't group us like that.. I don't compare, and rag on, other platforms like others, and you, do.. I don't give a flying rats a$$ about who had what first.. That's you're immature game... Pathetic!
94. SleepingOz (unregistered)
You nose is growing, meg. And comment section isn't a mirror.
6. lucid.brat (unregistered)
Its simply amazing
66. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Yes it is... WP is simply the most beautiful OS!
9. jckc92 (Posts: 28; Member since: 28 Nov 2012)

Icons in rows vs tiles in rows. Is there really a difference? Not much really. The only difference is now WP people like yourself seem to think it's cool to look down your nose towards icons because WP adapted tiles. Icons are still extremely relevant, get over it.
30. papss (unregistered)
You are right.. Icons like on my space are incredibly ugly
32. PBXtech (Posts: 1032; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
Don't visit Myspace, can't say. Icons on my phone look great though.
You still visit Myspace? wow
33. papss (unregistered)
I'm talking about your OS and its similar to my space.
34. PBXtech (Posts: 1032; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
Thanks for sharing that incredibly biased opinion. Completely off base, but it's all yours, you can do with it whatever you like.
BTW, you might want to update your profile, it shows you wanting an Android tablet. Guess you like icons after all.
35. papss (unregistered)
That's.. Yes, I've eliminated all my android products besides my wife's nexus 7.. It will go next. I've been putting my money where my mouth is and will be only supporting WP for the forcible future.
37. PBXtech (Posts: 1032; Member since: 21 Oct 2013)
Good luck with that. Personally I don't limit myself to one OS. My phone is Android, my desktop is Windows, and my laptop is Ubuntu.
I don't put all my eggs in one basket.
38. papss (unregistered)
I've owned and tried everything. I just prefer windows to all else. I don't use a desktop anymore but the one we have runs wp7, for home and work I use my surface pro 2, phone my L1520.
43. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Weren't you the one who claimed tha IE is better than Chrome?!
You're a biased MS fanboy since the dawn of PA!
45. papss (unregistered)
IE on mobile IS better than chrome..
49. ihavenoname (Posts: 1669; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
No, it's not... There is not a single reason why it's better. Seriously, you are getting Microd*cked very badly.
40. papss (unregistered)
Forgot that we just ordered my son a fire hdx for his birthday.. So there are going to be two android based tablets in the house.ive got my wife ready to jump to a Lumia 1020 from her iphone
50. StraightEdgeNexus (Posts: 3686; Member since: 14 Feb 2014)
He is just show off or just boasting. In his had it list he has added note 3 and lg g2. Seems he misunderstood that retail store hands on means owning the device.
54. SleepingOz (unregistered)
I wonder why would someone who's constantly bashing Android, calling it laggy, unsecured, outdated, myspace OS, waste his money on the Note 3 and the G2.

Oh you know me? Unlike you moronic fandroids I actually buy phones every couple of months.. I'm a TECH fan, not a narrow minded little kid that lives with his mom and works at McDonalds.
ahhh leave mommy alone, she can't afford to buy you another phone
68. rodneyej1 (Posts: 3576; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
Icons suck.... That's the difference.. They're old school... Old, and they suck... If your start screen is full of useless icons then it sucks... Case closed.
