DROID and Imagio gets first dibs on Verizon FIOS Mobile Remote app
We'd suspect that most people are more careful about where they place their cell phones than they do with a TV remote control. It's happened to just about everyone, but it's made worse when you misplaced the remote as your favorite show starts to come on. Instead of relying on the all powerful TV remote to control your viewing programs, Motorola DROID and HTC Imagio owners can get the first taste of using the Verizon FIOS Mobile Remote app on their handsets – it basically emulates your remote by providing some of the functions right on your phone. In addition, it adds an icon-based favorites view of channels and the ability to transfer photos from the phone to your television screen. The setup may be a little bit more engaged than others – the handsets essentially connects to your FIOS box through your local Wi-Fi connection and requires the download of a widget for the set top box to get everything properly synced. Once you've managed to deal with the strenuous process, you'll now be able to rely on your phone to control most of your TV watching functions. And we're confident that these two smartphones will stay close by to your pockets as opposed to your standard remote.
