Yakety Yak! Verizon says more than 1 billion VoLTE HD calls made since September
In an era where actual voice calling activing on mobile phones is not growing the way data usage is, it is pretty impressive to learn that Big Red’s brood of customers are quite chatty.
Verizon reported that since it launched Voice-over-LTE service this past September, more than 1 billion HD calls have been placed, and more than 3 billion minutes used.
Branded as “Advanced Calling,” Verizon’s VoLTE service is compatible with more than a dozen devices. All the expected flagship devices are on the list, including the latest iPhones, the latest Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, the new HTC One M9, the Nexus 6, and a few others like the LG G2, Motorola DROID Mini, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Galaxy Core Prime.
Verizon has not broken down the actual number of customers with VoLTE compatible devices, but spokewoman Debi Lewis noted that it is certainly in the “tens of millions” given the VoLTE traffic the carrier is handling.
