A new leak reveals the HTC U life series will live on...
Last year, HTC introduced its brand new flagship line. Gone are the One series, gone is the 10. This time around, we got a "U" and — after the series was introduced with a short-lived pair of smartphones named U Ultra and U Play — the first flagship to come out of the line was the HTC U11. A super-shiny handset that drew attention with its looks, but then drew some criticism over some of the design decisions around it.

Never one to leave its top phone stand alone, HTC later expanded upon the U line with a midrange version, named the HTC U11 life and the larger-screen HTC U11+.

This year around, HTC is a bit more conservative with its smartphone launches. Thus far, the U line has only gotten the HTC U12+, which is this year's flagship. But fret not, a new leak suggests that we will be seeing an HTC U12 life by the end of the year as well!

Well, at least it is assumed it's the HTC U12 life, since the code name for the unannounced device is "Imagine Life". The specs further support this theory. The new phone is reportedly going to have a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and an elongated 9:18 display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 (FHD+).

Two major upgrades can be seen in the leak, compared to the U11 life of last year. One is the battery — we'll get a 3,600 juicebox this year, which is much bigger than the U11 life's 2,600 mAh cell. The second bump is in the camera department. This time around, we'll get a dual-camera setup with a 16 MP main sensor and a 5 MP secondary one. Presumably, these will be used for a bokeh-emulating Portrait Mode of sorts. This mirrors the HTC U12+'s new dual camera, which looks like this:

Side note — it's kind of fun how HTC was so ahead of the curve with the dual camera module on the One M8 back in 2014. Sadly, back then the tech wasn't up to snuff and HTC dropped the concept with its next flagship of the time — the One M9. Now that the tech is pretty much mainstream, the company is made to look like a follower by re-implementing dual cameras on its phones.

The information on pricing is fuzzy, but since the HTC U11 life launched for $350, it's safe to assume that the U12 life would cost at least that. As for release date — it'll probably be in November of this year, completing a full annual cycle after the release of the U11 life.
