Availability is a big problem, especially the inability to take advantage of the complaint. Foldables are fragile, the possibility of damaging the internal screen is high. In Poland, Samsung has Care +, whose services I used for Galaxy Fold 4. What's more, Pixel phones, especially at the beginning, have software problems, and here are likely mechanical problems. I really want a Pixel Fold...but.

You're right, Pixel are known for their release bugs too, hopefully that gets better over time...

If Google is serious about making a quality premium product then I believe they can have a future in the foldable market. I don't know if they'll be able to catch up to Samsung, but we'll see. Only time will tell. I've yet to see the pixel fold in person, but from the few commercials that I've seen it's a nice looking device...

Also, a big factor will be the pricing. If it's priced for as much as the Galaxy Folds are priced then I don't think it'll have a chance at being successful. Although, if it sells for around $1,000 maybe $1,100 max then they should have no problem selling them in mass quantities as long as the device lives up to the hype.

It's an uphill battle for Google. BUT most of the "bugs" are software iirc. I have had 3 generations of Pixels (2XL, 4XL, 7Pro) and had family members with 5 others (2, 3XL,3a, 4a, 5) and I haven't seen any deal breaking bugs in any of them. I think we need to stop spreading that message... but that's a different topic.

I still think it's an uphill battle for Google, but I don't think we need to see a huge breakthrough with the Pixel Fold Gen 1 for it be successful. Decent interest from consumers and good "real life usage" will set up #2 for success.

TBH I think the biggest thing is Google's lack of awareness with their release cycle. The Regular, Pro, and A versions should come out together - not in separate calendar years. Throwing in a foldable is going to complicate this even more for people on the Pro release schedule. tsk tsk

The horizontally wider format is attractive for closed phone operations and dual-app use on a larger screen. This should work efficiently for multi-tasking. Most people do not understand processors and ram while they do sense how a phone/tablet feels in the hand. This is a very compelling format over the Galaxy Fold and will be compelling to many who want to do more with their phones.

I agree with one of the previous comments made regarding Google's future phones and foldable line. The pixel fold for example is behind from a development standpoint compared to their competitors. Granted, the design for the hinge seems impressive but other companies already tackled that problem that's not able to sell their phones in the US market.

I don't think Google will be able to change the mixed reception among smartphone users. Besides the fact the price for owning their foldable is pretty steep. When promised updates with your pixel phone lines has been less than stellar, and doesn't happen as often as promised. It eventually will damage the confidence of potential customers. in addition, the price point doesn't make potential customers feel comfortable with ponying up $1,800 on a generation 1 foldable. Better yet, feel comfortable switching over from a more reliable ecosystem like apple, or Samsung when your asking price is comparable priced to their flagship premium devices that already proven they are worth every penny of your money.

I prefer the design of the PF over the ZF. The outer display of the PF is closer to normal smartphone than the super skinny ZF
