If you're getting a new Windows Phone handset and don't want to lose your contacts, Transfer My Data is an app that lets you move over all of the contacts from your old phone to your new Windows Phone 8 model, saving plenty of time and typing. Now, after being updated by Nokia, the app also allows you to move over text messages and pictures. You can check out the matrix that accompanies this article to see which features are available, depending on the OS of the phone you are leaving. Your former device must support the PBAP Bluetooth profile (Phone Book Access Profile) and/or SyncML.

If pictures cannot be transferred using the app, Nokia suggests using SkyDrive. You might want to consider that anyway just to save time. While contacts and text messages don't take that long to transfer, pictures on the other hand, can try your patience. For example, moving over 1,684 pictures from a Nokia 808 PureView showed an estimated transfer time of 462 minutes which is nearly 8 hours!

Version 3.0.3.3 of Transfer My Data is available for free from the Windows Phone Store.

Yeah right lol. Why would I want a WP when I have Android? Pretend you are a salesman...and convince me to switch (if you can).

The only thing that transfers directly with the app are the contacts for Android, iOS, and BlackBerry phones. For many people, text messages are as important (more important?) as contacts and photos. I doubt Android, iOS or BB users are going to see any value in the app.

App sounds more like an effort to convert legacy Nokia phone owners to the WP Nokia phones.

Agree. Hope it can make messages transferring supported.
