Meizu officially debuts the 6-inch M3 Max phablet

Over the weekend, Meizu offered a few details of its M3 Max phablet, and today, it's officially been unveiled. A device very much about the display, its 6-inch, 1920 x 1080 panel pushes the bezel out to near non-existence. As was also hinted, the battery is sizable, with the 4100 mAh juice pack able to charge to 45 percent in just half an hour. 

The metallic exterior, which arrives in a choice of the four colors seen above, is certainly easy on the eye. Under the hood, though, it's pretty standard mid-range fare. There's MediaTek's octa-core Helio P10 processor with 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and a microSD slot for those seeking additional real estate. To the rear is Sony's 12-megapixel IMX258 sensor with dual-LED flash, while a 5-megapixel shooter adorns the front. 

Below the display, the physical home button includes fingerprint scanning capabilities and underneath the device, connectivity is taken care of through USB Type-C. Despite an apparent crusade against its presence from the likes of Motorola and Apple, the M3 Max also gets a 3.5 mm audio jack. 

We just heard that Meizu's Marshmallow-based Flyme 6 may roll out next week alongside the Meizu Pro 7, and we now know that the M3 Max will also run on the newer edition of the company's UX. Despite its intuitive nature, the current version of Flyme is based on the the very dated Android 5.1 Lollipop. Given that we're now at Android 7.0 Nougat, it would be simply unreasonable for Meizu to continue pushing devices underpinned by two-year-old firmware, so it's good to see this update confirmed. 

The Meizu M3 Max hits China with a price tag of 1699 Yuan, or about $255.
