Portfolio downsizing? Meh, Samsung just filed trademark applications for Galaxy J3, J5, J7 and E3

Portfolio downsizing? Meh, Samsung just filed trademark applications for Galaxy J3, J5, J7 and E3

Samsung already released a Galaxy J, and a rumored Galaxy J1 is on the way. Despite promises to simplify its product line last year, after the Galaxy Alpha Samsung quickly spat out three phones in a new A-series, and two in the even fresher E-series.

Not only there will be a third phone in the E-series, but the J-series will be expanded with three new phones we haven't heard about until now, too. This info is revealed thanks to a Samsung trademark application for the J3, J5, J7 and E3 monikers. If history is any indication, those trademark applications usually quickly translate into real gear afterwards.

Thus, in the span of just a few short months, Samsung will have the Galaxy J1 to J7, A3 to A7, and E3 to E7 - a veritable smorgasbord of ten new phones, which will be added to the upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship, and its eventual Edge version. We wouldn't exactly call this downsizing the portfolio, but Samsung apparently wants to hedge its bets with a representative in every market niche and cranny this year as well.

That's why apple is selling so much phones, less confusing. And this is coming from a Note 4 user... Samsung needs to stop all those product lines and just sell 3 phones. Low-end, mid-end and High-end. How hard is that? Just 3 phones. Simplify!

Looks like it. More models would dilute their ability to properly support those models. And when they give bad service, people will leave them in flocks.

Let them burn!

Almost, need cater to different sizes, so 9 phones so you have a compact/mini, phablet and something in between for each budget class.

So you mean to say iPhone users are too dumb to choose between phones?

When you look things in other perspective, that wast number of phones is keeping them on first place.
Samsung does not have loyal buyers like Apple. If they had 3 or 4 models they would be like Sony than, on margins of market.

You can find phone in Samsung portfolio for everybody on this planet. Those mass product phones are keeping them on top.

"That's why apple is selling so much phones, less confusing."

It's many, not much & check out any sales chart. They might be on the decline, but Samsung still sells more phones than Apple.

Making only 3 phones, means to make room for other smartphone manufacturers. It is not that there are only 3 types of different people out there. Why not make a 50$-phone for someone with a maximum budget of 50$, or 100$, 150$, 200$, 250$... For those who prefer max 4.0", 4.5", 5", 5.5", 6"... for those who want optical zoom... those who want to go swimming with their phones (or often fishes their phone out of the toilet)... for those who do a lot of outdoor activity.... who want an analog stick... hardware keyboard...
It is not like you have to develop completely new hardware for each device.

From Steve Jobs predicted perfect size of a phone and tablet, look what Apple offers today. You can choose between 9 iPhones (5.5",4.7",4" 16gb,32gb,64gb,128gb), 22 iPad's variants (9.7", 7.9", Wifi, Wifi+Cellular, 16gb,32gb,64gb,128gb) and iPad 12.1" is to come this year. Simplicity ;).

Samsung should taper releasing lots of phone. Touchwiz is so slow, people are having the impression that Android is relatively slow.

Sony's and LG's handsets and even the Chinese brands' phones are laggier than Note 4..

Yep, theres no hiding that fact but many are experiencing lags because many are holding Galaxy devices than Sony and LG combined.

I still dont understand peoples logic here... comments such as "More models would dilute... or "samsung is making too many phones" ... This is the reason why Samsung is doing soo well, its because they make alot of phones. Each phone is also specific to certain region, or korea only. Not all Samsung phones will be sold in your local store, most people would have never heard of these new samsung phones if they did not look at tech websites.

More models will not affect your way of chosing what phone to buy, because that all comes down to how much you're willing to spend.

Do people just hate Samsung that much or they think they're experts now?

Companies has its ups and down, its normal... I think the main reason is because of Chinese companies making high end phones at a low price, and China itself would have made the biggest impact against samsung aswell as other companies such as Sony and HTC.

China itself is a huge market, and if local companies can persuade the locals to buy their products, that alone can throw samsung off balance.

"Chinese companies making high end phones at a low price"... How do you explain Apple selling so well in china with "high end phones at higher price" than Chinese models? Samsung is trying a lot of things all at the same time - they did that with "features" and they're doing it with phone models (throw everything against the wall to see what sticks) - none in my opinion is working for them given their mobile business at the moment. But I dont know much about corporate visions except for Apple - that's as clear as day - I can easily plan my next iPhone purchase without worrying about what it will cost, how it will be supported, how it will work with my other devices, house, car, software, etc. And this is what Samsung should do - give people reason to plan to buy "the next big thing" from Samsung. Putting out so many models, does "delude" those plans and many will go elsewhere for an Android Device where they will feel more comfortable with choices...

The posts are all jokes when it comes to smart phones if you go to the main uk site for phones in the uk carphonewh... And look at the phone up for sale there are 14 smartphones for Samsung all at a range of very clear prices, but 11 models of iPhones up for sale all with close price ranges, so you may think they very limited in what you be getting for the price when you buŷ them for any user not up on them.
