Motorola tells DROID owners to chill, Android 2.1 will be here soon
There's a heart broken for every light on Broadway, the saying goes. After Motorola apparently was premature in telling DROID owners to expect Android 2.1 to be sent to their machine this week, owners of Motorola's flagship device were nursing broken hearts. Motorola removed all posts in its forum and web site having to do with the upgrade, including a list of what changes the upgrade was to bring to the DROID. The erasure job was so good that you would have thought that the Schaumburg based company recruited former Nixon secretary Rosemary Woods to do the job.

In response to an email from Phonescoop, Motorola said on Thursday, "The Droid over-the-air software upgrade is expected to rollout soon. It will automatically be pushed to phones when ready and Verizon Wireless customers will only have to accept the free download for continued use and enjoyment of this feature packed device." And yes, soon could mean as soon as Friday to as long as, well, you get the idea. For those who own the device, you might be letting yourself get too carried away by staring at the display all day and all evening, waiting for the notification bar to get set off with news of the upgrade.

For this, we better get a "true" 2.1 update. I mean, animated backgrounds included. That part was bs. Animated backgrounds were part of 2.1 so why wouldn't they give it to the Droid. It should be perfectly capable.

For "this"??? For what??? Motorola hasn't done anything wrong yet. They said that we would see 2.1 update THIS week. Its FRIDAY, which means, the week isn't over. Calm down. If it doesn't come THIS week, then you have a reason to cry. They don't OWE you anything.

There are no tears over here. Regardless if its this week, the update should include everything that is supposed to be in 2.1. Oh, and, yea they did do something wrong.. that's what the whole article is about... if nothing was done wrong then this article wouldn't exist and Motorola's website and forum posts wouldn't have been deleted.

I'd rather get the update a week late then get it and have it make my phone glitchy. And they've already clearly said that the animated backgrounds will not be in the update because the processor can't support it.

I agree. I wasn't really serious in the first post. I honestly don't care that much about the update. All I want is an update with flash support. Come on Adobe

Too much drama over a cell phone - lol. I, too am awaiting the update with baited breath, but, seriosuly...this is small stuff.

Come on, peopple. even the holy grail iphone has had its share of delays. For those of you who don't want delays in software upgrades, just go get a Samsung Knack.

Once the 2.1 update comes you will lose the ability to root, they are supposed to patch it where you can't use the update.zip to root it. Also if you are rooted and dont have OTA updates blocked it will unroot your phone. Personally i think ill stick with the ability to OC and wifi tether for free.

13. macron2000 posted on 12 Feb 2010, 14:05

Anyone else tether for free? I'd hate to loose this feature. It is perhaps the most useful app in the entire app store. Now I'm thinking, not so fast. The ability to do this saves me what, 30 bucks a month?

15. deschats posted on 12 Feb 2010, 17:59

Completely agree. I looked at a few forums and I rooted, flashed, and put new ROMs on my phone knowing nothing hours before. Everybody with a DROID should do this, its the best thing you can do for your phone.

People get way too serious about this. The update's coming. And when it's done, you can go back to having sex with your phone.

This is why I will go with Nexus One when I go Android. Hate waiting for these updates. Droid owers should tell Motorola to step it up. By the time this comes out, 2.2 will be available.

Be patient? Like every freakin day there's a new topic about the Droid getting 2.1 on here. Each post, it talks about how the droid is going to get 2.1 upgrade soon, over and over and over again. lol
