More photographs of the Motorola DROID Bionic are made public
It was January 5th when we first told you about the Motorola DROID Bionic. Back then, it was projected that Verizon would launch its first dual-core LTE handset in the beginning of the second quarter. Along with that story was a rendering of the device that captured everyone's attention. Later in January, stories circulated that the model had a power management bug and at the end of April came the shocking story: the model was being pulled. But the very next day came the word from Motorola that the DROID Bionic was actually still going to be released, it would just be a different model.

After it was hinted that Motorola was replacing the Etna version of the Motorola DROID Bionic with the Targa variant of the device, we have seen a number of pictures that culminated with this past weekend's potpourri of DROID Bonic snapshots. As we get closer to the possible September 8th launch, even more photos are disseminated including the series of four that you see below. The picture of the front clearly shows off the 4.3 inch qHD display and the 4G LTE icon on top, while the picture of the back lets you see the soft touch coating, the 8MP camera and the flash. The side shots are a bit blurry but let you see the volume rocker and the Micro HDMI and Micro USB ports.

Each day brings us closer to the expected September 8th launch and a possible show down with the Samsung Stratosphere, which we believe could be the Samsung Galaxy S II in disguise. All we need is the official introduction of these two handsets and it will be just like Ali-Frazier I all over again.

You sure that's not the Droid 4? lol just kidding but for real wow that is a thick freaking brick.

LTE really needs to get worked on some more before it becomes main stream. I mean not only are their devices way too thick, imagine if the Droid 3 DID HAVE LTE. It would be like stacking 3 SGS2's together.

This phone has also been delayed so many times(which most of the other LTE phones have also, I think the Revolution was the only one that didnt but nobody cared about that one anyway)

I know Sniggly and Thump will probably disagree with this and I understand and respect them for it but I gotta say it again! Motorola makes good solid looking phones with the Gglass but their phones are always too tall and narrow. I get it with the ratio yada yada yada, I get that. But I'd rather have a phone that is shorter in height yet the screen is just as tall but wider. It's more comfortable to hold and typing is much easier too. Browsing the web is easier on my eyes because I don't have to scroll over so much due to the wider display.

Again, I know people will disagree and I respect their feelings on it but I hope the SGS2 for Verizon is NOT LTE. LTE causes phones to be too thick, horrible battery life, constant delays, very buggy and seemingly no or little updates.(The Bionic will be the only LTE 2.3 smartphone and that's pretty sad considering how there is a billion phones now with 2.3) OK maybe not a billion but you get my point!

I played with one of these already. Very close to the same size of the Droid X & X2. It is a little thicker though

I agree with you for the most part. The thing is, is that most people are content with a device that is less than .54 inches. This phone is definitely thinner than half an inch. The only issue I'd see with this device is that LTE makes this device so hot that you can fry an egg on it. Wait, that may be a complement. A phone that you can actually cook a meal on. That probably means the battery life sucks. lol

Thank LTE for that. This phone would have been out months ago if it was running 3G. But Verizon wanted to push LTE so badly and that's not the bad thing. It's just that LTE is so new and problematic at this point that it has caused so many delays.

I'm sure for many, when this phone does come out, it will be worth it. I, however will wait for the SGS2.

in this day and age bricks can only hide good things. what do you guys think? could it be a bigger battery? what could be in there?

there's been a whole lot of leaks from this phone in recent days. it seems like i'm ending every night seeing something that's been brought up about the Bionic. next they'll be finding this thing in a Taco Bell. (oh yeah, i just brought that back. xD)

i hope it has whatever kind of LTE radio the Galaxy Tab has too. i speed tested one in a store yesterday and that bad boy got 20mbps down on the first test. Engadget even reported getting theirs to 40 something mbps. that's impressive.

After learning the official specifications on the Bionic, I've decided I'm most likely going to hold out for another device, (possibly the Vigor). I wasn't put off by the delay. The reason I'm possibly changing my mind is because of the lack of new technology on this device. I was considering the Bionic when it was rumored it would have specifications similar to the Targa. 4.3 inch screens, 8 MP cameras have been around for two years. Then to top that off it comes with only Android 2.3 & doesn't have simultaneous voice & data. When Motorola came out with the Droid X, it was such a revolutionary device, one of a kind, & unique. It's too bad the Bionic couldn't of been the same.

I may be wrong and correct me if so, but wasn't the first phone with both a 4.3 inch screen and 8MP camera together in the US the Evo 4G. That phone came out June 6th last year. Not sure what you're talking about been out for 2 years. Just over a year is more accurate. Droid X launch July 15th 2010. Once again just over a year.

&

LTE is capable of Voice and Data at the same time.

VZW shouldve just put lte, TIOMAP dual core processor, world capabilities, and a better 8mp camera into the DROID X2 and released it as the bionic... seeing that the bionic and x2 are shaped similarily and are alike, the x2 was a waste having almost no unique upgrades from the og x... (no front camera, and eliminated the camera key...)

I have a theory that the X2 was a way for Moto to burn through all the Tegra 2 chips they'd ordered for the original Bionic that got cancelled. It does seem kind of a placeholder phone - no LTE, no new design, just hardware upgrades.

If the SGSII had shipped when it was new, would the Samsung fans who now haunt every Bionic thread like scorned harpies be content to play with their toys and resist trying to rain or everyone else's parade, or would they kick it into overdrive, deriding every phone released that has a single feature superior to the SGSII in some desperate need to validate their own buying decision? Oi.

The SGSII is a slim, sexy beast of a phone. Assuming Verizon doesn't screw it up, it will be no less slim and sexy because the Bionic or the Vigor or whatever else they're cooking up is released. If you find yourself posting two and three times on every Bionic thread you see and you hate the phone... that says more about you than it says about the phone. Seek counsel of the professional sort.

I'm waiting for the commercials more than the phone itself. I gotta say VZW and Motorola have gone all out with their Droid advertisements. Im surprised I havent seen the ones hinting about something coming out. I bet they'll be fricken dopeass. Get with it VZW! SHOW THEM! include Megan Fox, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendez, Salma Hayek, and Eva Longoria in tight heroine suits fighting some star wars droid trying to get to the Bionic and you got my $300. Im a simple man.....

Yes... Correction & Thump3rDX17, I'm aware the Droid X & Evo 4G haven't been out for two years, I never indicated they were. But, the Htc Incredible, equipped with a 8 MP camera, (released 4/10,) will have been around for 17 months. The Htc HD2, equipped with a 4.3 inch display, (released 3/10,) will have been released 18 months ago. Even though neither of these features have existed for exactly two years, they have existed for close to that time frame. This is also assuming the Bionic is released on 9/8/11 & not delayed again. Also, I know that LTE has simultaneous voice & data capability. But, if you go to Droid-Life & read their post, "More From The DROID Bionic FCC Filing: Inductive Battery Cover, No
Simultaneous 3G Voice-Data, Top And Bottom Shots (Updated,)" posted on 8/7/11. They have stated the Bionic will not have simultaneous 3G voice & data capability. This is a little disappointing since the Thunderbolt, (which is older,) does. I guess I should've been more specific!

yeah..you did. you were speaking about how disappointed you were about the Bionic and the specs it has. how is anyone supposed to come off that and figure out that you were talking about a couple of different phones each with one of the specs you mentioned were becoming old? you didn't make your point clear. oh and if 18 months isn't two years, don't say it is. no s**t 3G doesn't have simultaneous voice + data, it never will, point is the phone WILL have voice + data when it's connected to LTE like you would expect it to be if you decided to get a Bionic or any other LTE phone for that manner. if you don't want to be offended by your lack of knowledge then don't try to make a point showing as such.

Yeah man, as long as the SGS2 is confirmed to have LTE, I'll pass on the Bionic. Very disappointing form factor. Too chunky.

It doesn't help also that when you look up smartphones with the highest radiation ratings, Motorola's are always at the top.

Please oh please let the SGS2 have an LTE radio. I currently have the Droid Charge and really like the phone (especially the speed) but would love to upgrade to the improved hardware specs.

the Galaxy S II will be on the "chunky" side if it comes with an LTE radio and being this is a dual-core phone as well the LTE radio has to be a package deal with a bigger battery so that adds some more size to the phone.

Hey Thump! What's up with the f**king attitude? I think you need to take some more reading comprehension classes! I said 4.3 inch screens & 8 MP cameras have been around for two years, not the Droid X. What makes you think your conceited ass! has the authority to decide who is knowledgeable & who's not? Don't get pissy because what I said was critical of your, "dream phone!" When I posted a comment here, I assumed the majority were educated enough & I didn't need to elaborate on everything. If you need this elaboration, you're the one who's not knowledgeable! Also, a 3G cdma network does have simultaneous voice & data capability, it's called, "SVDO,"(Google that smart-ass!) It's accomplished by equipping the device with separate receivers/transmitters for voice & data. The Thunderbolt has simultaneous voice & data capability over its 3G cdma network but, they don't brag about it.

you brought the attitude to this after you came back all offended about my comment to your first post which wasn't even wrong but you made a big deal about it anyway because you didn't make yourself clear enough. i didn't even bring up the Droid X...i don't appreciate someone getting snippy with ME because he/she doesn't like to be misunderstood. even the other unregistered guy read it the same way i did and when it's two vs. one it's not my reading comprehension abilities that are at question it's your grammar. you didn't say 4.3" screens AND 8MP cameras you had a comma between 4.3" screens and 8MP cameras which lead me to believe you made a mistake and was really describing the specs for one phone. ah, it's true, you're right. i didn't know about the Thunderbolt being the ONLY CDMA phone being able to do voice + data over 3G, my mistake, i thought it was simply accomplished through 4G LTE, it is a pretty insignificant feature though. how many times do you think you're going to be in a call and want to look something up? especially when you have a 4G phone and the only way that it wouldn't be possible is when you're on 3G.

Aw s**t Thump! Now you want to be so petty to point out I misplaced a coma? Then, you should learn how to properly capitalize letters in your sentences! I see several where you forgot to capitalize the first letter. f**k, you should've learned to do that in Kindergarten! You're just pissed off because you know my criticism of the Bionic holds some weight! If Motorola had released the Bionic closer to the date the Thunderbolt was released, I wouldn't be so judgmental about it. But, The Vigor, (with better rumored specs,) is scheduled to be released only a month after the Bionic. You say having simultaneous 3G voice & data isn't important. But, it will be... If you're in a area where LTE isn't available. Verizon hasn't built out their LTE network to match their 3G footprint, yet.

it made a difference didn't it? like i said i wasn't the only one. how is that relevant? i can get a sentence across clearly without capitalization. i realize it's not proper grammar but i choose not to because i like the way sentences look without the first letter of a sentence capitalized. i do capitalize names and other things though. i'm not trying to make personal attacks, i'm just trying to explain to you that you're in error. i think the Bionic is going to be a great phone when it comes out. i know because i have the Droid 3 and love it. the Bionic is going to be pretty much the same just with more RAM, LTE and it's bigger. sure, that's WHERE it would be important if it was actually important. you're still not telling me HOW it's important.
