Alleged press shot of HTC One X 5 has people talking
Share:
Not only is there uncertainty about the name, there is still a question about what will be under the hood. Some all calling for the phablet to be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, most likely the MSM8960. Other see nothing less than an LTE lovin' quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 pro doing the heavy lifting. One thing that everyone agrees on is a 1080p resolution on a 5 inch screen with a tremendously high pixel density (480ppi is one rumor). Looking at the back of the unit, we see that Beats Audio will be included.
If this is indeed the 5 inch monster headed to Verizon, it is going to face some competition in the phablet sector from the LG Intuition and the Samsung GALAXY Note II. Throw in competition from sizzling hot handsets like like the Apple iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S III, the upcoming Motorola DROID RAZR HD and the rumored LG Optimus Blaze, and it is going to be a difficult winter ahead for customers of Big Red with an upgrade to burn.

UPDATE: According to HTC Source, the press shot was actually created by a Flickr user by the name of Dannix. HTC Source reports that its source is still confident that the device will come out as a DROID flavored model called the HTC DIx.

If everyone agrees that it will be a 5 inch screen with 1080p resolution, then how is there any disagreement on the pixel density. If you do the math it's going to be 440.58 ppi.
12. nnaatthhaannx2 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:00 5 1
Because it may be 5.3 or 5.0 or 5.1 and so on.
But what we can say, is that if it is 1080p, it will be over 400 and from there thats really all that matters.
I don't understand why this is necessary other than marketing. It's just going to make thinks more stressful on the device and use more power. Something lower seems much more practical.

Pixel density is inversely proportional to the screen size. The larger the screen, lower the pixel density.

The more the pixel the sharper the graphics and photos.
24. No_Nonsense posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:18 0 2
Not talking about larger resolutions. The thing is that a 1080p resolution display on a 5 inch screen will give a better pixel density than a 1080p display on a 5.5 one. So comment #12 is technically wrong in saying that the size of screen maybe 5.1 or 5.3.
55. GUNDAM posted on 23 Sep 2012, 09:02 0 0
only if the resolution is the same
40. cmikeh2 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 22:00 1 0
What No_Nonsense is trying to convey is that if you increase screen size to more than 5 inches the ppi will be less then 440.53, because the diagonal of a 1080p screen is is 2203 pixels. For a 5.1 inch screen the ppi will go down to 431.94 etc. I guess what I was trying to say is that in my original post is that 480 ppi is not possible with a five inch or larger screen. Sorry for the ambiguity.
41. cmikeh2 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 22:06 0 0
To have 480 ppi on a 1080p screen, the screen size would be 4.59 inches.

Yeah thanks for putting it up better.

Everything about it trumps the Note, except the latest rumor that it won't be compatible with a digitizer pen. that is surprising since they were the first to include the tech on tablets, which failed not because of the pen but the "premium" pricing. Many people have no use for the added precision the pen provides but I do. If I am going to carry a huge phone for the versatility of using it in place of a tablet, then I want the added versatility of a digital notebook as well.

Too everyone that says it is not necaseraraly to have a 1080p display I understand what your coming from but at the same time I say wait and see what can be done with the screen resolution because you never know if it is not needed untill we get a chance to develope applications for the screen. It might have other reasons besides how good the picture looks. I am not sure the possibilities yet and neither is anybody else. But I say if it can be done than do it. There could be some possibilities of 3d screens can be done right with that resolution. Maybe being able to have better pixel management to where you use half the pixels and alternate them to have doferent affects to make the screen last longer and actually make it battery management better. It could have a affect when you have really fast moving objects on the screen like playing madden football or watching sports on the screen where you see a huge improvement.
All I know is I can't wait to see if it is redundant or a smoke and mirrors gimmick,

Am I wrong to have a nerdgasm all over my computer screen? In fact am I wrong to have three consecutively because I would die to have a device of this caliber in my grasp...even if it is just demo time...

I think this will be a huge hit if this is true. 1080p is a game changer.
5. tiara6918 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 20:40 1 0
Looks like this htc one x5 will be more comfortable to place in you're pocket judging from the picture. 1080p screen will But I like the design of the original one x more, this thing kinda reminds me of the Evo 4G lte
8. tiara6918 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 20:44 1 0
I can't edit my comment but that 1080p screen will give it an all kill!
9. shamatuu posted on 17 Sep 2012, 20:47 2 0
Boy those list of phones are alot of choices. not including the iphone 5 because it's not a game changer.

Black with red outline looks sexy and stylish. This looks much better than the NOTE with ugly curves. HTC has more EDGY cut looks.
45. darkskoliro posted on 17 Sep 2012, 22:47 0 0
looks stylish yes, but still fake :( I cant wait for an actual design being pushed out by HTC to the public. Honestly, samsung devices are so ugly (plus I hate plastic phones) i pretty much fall in love with htcs design

Dix, d**ks? I thought a more proper name Droid X5. Makes up for the X2
27. lubba posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:30 1 0
Since it is a phablet, it probably or should be called the Droid Big DIx.
15. korean411 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:06 1 1
if this is true then i might help htc quite a bit in my opinion cause they had been in a big slump for a while, this phone will get people talking if it is true but not put back them on the map because they didn't really break out as they wanted it to be.
the only reason i think it is fake it is because since beatsaudio is not going to be on future htc phones like htc has said, and also i think htc would do the design a lot better but who knows.
19. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:12 0 0
they never said they planned on parting with beats bro........infact they're supposed to be makin a beats phone in the future...

It's funny how the writer thinks that competition from sizzling hot handsets to include the iPhone 5. That would be like believing that someone who rides a 10-speed bicycle would opt for a tricycle (let tricycle = iPhone 5).
23. lyndon420 posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:16 2 0
Beautiful phone and the name is brilliant....bound to confuse some people who thought they were buying an phone 5. Hopefully this helps to put HTC back at the top of their game.
25. lubba posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:26 1 0
Good! Finally something more worthy to talk about than the iphone5. Sick and tired seeing every news iPhone 5 on this site.

I'm glad that is a fake. It looks horrendous. Galaxy Note 2 will destroy this if it looked like this.
31. Dro posted on 17 Sep 2012, 21:40 1 2
And of course HTC would ruin this phone with a mediocre battery which would last 2hrs with such a screen. smh!

47. Kronic (banned) posted on 18 Sep 2012, 00:02 1 0
Not bad! If it has all the rumored specs, it can bring HTC back into the game. Awesome design I must say. Also: HTC design + Samsung hardware + stock jelly bean = the best droid ever! I know that was irrelevant but that's true
51. rizevnarastek posted on 18 Sep 2012, 04:33 0 0
hope it has an SD slot and 3500mAh battery. Two LED flashlights and a camera button. It would be grat to include a digitizer and on-screen buttons not soft keys ;)
