That was quick - Android May security update already hitting Galaxy S7, S7 edge units on AT&T

Google released the May security update for Android on May 2, but AT&T is already pushing the important security patch to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Yes, that was a relatively quick and pleasant surprise!

We are yet to get hold of a changelog for the patch, but there's hardly anything else in tow. The May security update features over 40 patches that should help even the more paranoid Android users sleep better for now. For now.

In theory, the update should be hitting your handset shortly, but if for some unknown reasons it doesn't, you can manually check if it has been pushed to your device. To do so, head to Settings, then scroll down to "About device", then "Software update", and checking manually for it.

Di you get it already? Hit us up if you something new?

Hope next T-Mobile update brings dpi scaling. Btw, I have a question for you who also wander around XDA. Does the locked bootloader problem makes a differences wether my phone is carrier locked or unlocked?

If google released it yesterday then why does my tmobile s7 edge have a security patch that says may 1st. The update that tmobile sent out on may 4th updated my security patch level from april to may 1st 2016?

Mid month security updates are released if a Critical severity issue is found I believe there's only been one so far, which was mid April

Actually Google released it for their Nexus devices on the 2nd of May e.g. Here's what happens Google makes the "May 1st 2016" and releases it to OEMs early April Google requests the OEMs wait until May before releasing them Google release them on the first Monday of May Google also releases the monthly security bulletin as well on the first Monday of May OEMs release them when they are ready, sometimes early, sometimes late Xiamoi actually usually releases them a few weeks early for people in their beta program

When a patch is created it's given a reference date. So if Google released a patch and it's for security and vulnerability patching only; Then it mat be referenced by what day the latest bug fix, security patch came out. It then has to go through validation and testing. To which could explain the difference between the reference date versus actual date of release.

While this is good, this trend needs to continue every month. But where is the security update for the S6, and Note 5/4? On a side note, my Nexus 5 and 2nd Gen Nexus 7 have the update, but my 5X is still on the April security update :(

I received an update today for my AT&T Note 4 not sure if it was this particular update but not much changed. It was about 60 mb so I'm assuming it was just the security update.

I already received this update on my AT&T branded BlackBerry PRIV last week. :) Love how quickly BlackBerry sends out the Android security patches to the PRIV. They truly stay on top of it.
