Leaked Galaxy S10 E case render
Next month, the
Galaxy S10 series will be announced. By now, it’s fair to say that the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ monikers are more or less set in stone. However, one thing that has remained pretty unclear since the very beginning is how Samsung would choose to brand its budget device. But now this appears to have been cleared up.
According to one of the long-standing suppliers in China of online retailer
Mobile Fun, the device previously known as
the Galaxy S10 Lite will actually be marketed as the Samsung Galaxy S10 E.
At the moment, the logic behind this name remains a total mystery so it’s unclear why the company may have chosen it. Nevertheless, one possibility is that the “E” stands for economical, a reference to the smartphone’s lower price tag. Then again,
Apple never officially explained the iPhone XR’s name, so perhaps Samsung simply thought Galaxy S10 E sounded best.
Apart from the marketing name, the supplier in question didn’t provide many important details. However, it did mention the smartphone’s lack of an in-display fingerprint scanner – the device is rumored to include a side-mounted alternative.
As
Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the Galaxy S10 E, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ naming scheme, it’s worth taking this leak with a pinch of salt. However, it does make much more sense than previous information which
hinted at the return of the company's “Edge” branding.
