Oreo-powered Galaxy S8 Active passes certification, update imminent?

For the last few months, Samsung has been hard at work on bringing Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The Korean tech giant launched a public beta for the 2017 flagship pair and managed to dish out multiple test builds before closing the program on January 26th. Current expectations are that the official rollout of the Oreo-based Samsung Experience 9.0 software will commence before the end of February.

However, their ruggedized sibling, the Galaxy S8 Active, has generally avoided the Oreo commotion, leading some to believe that its upgrade to the latest major version of Android would come a month or two later than the regular variants. Well, we're happy to say that this might not be the case, as an Oreo-powered Galaxy S8 Active passed certification with the Wi-Fi Alliance today. 

The two certified devices carry the model numbers SM-G892U and SM-G892A. The U model is offered by T-Mobile and Sprint, while the A variant is sold by AT&T. As you might know, the S8 Active shares many similarities with the regular S8, but it has a tougher design, a flat display instead of a curved one, and comes with a larger 4,000mAh battery. The latest developments serve as another indication that Samsung is really close to releasing an official build of Android 8, and we certainly hope to see it go live in the next few weeks.
