Apple to fix bug that allows Siri to read hidden notifications

Earlier today, we told you about the Siri-based security flaw discovered in Brazil that allows Siri to read your notifications, even if they are hidden from the lock screen. The notifications that are most vulnerable come from third party apps including Facebook and Gmail. Holding down the home button (or the side button on the Apple iPhone X) will put Siri into blabbermouth mode.

Apple does know about this issue. In fact, in a statement published today, the tech titan said, "We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update." Apple could decide that this is a serious enough bug to send out a patch immediately with an update that would probably be iOS 11.2.7. Or, Apple could add it to the iOS 11.3 update, which includes the battery health meter and a toggle switch to prevent Apple from throttling certain iPhone models with weak batteries.

There are a couple of workarounds that will stop Siri from reading notifications. You might want to check these out until an update is disseminated by Apple. First, to stop Siri from reading lock screen notifications, go to Settings > Notifications, select an app, and toggle off Show on Lock Screen. You can also arrange to have Siri disabled whenever the iPhone is locked. To do that, go to Settings > Siri & Search > Allow Siri When Locked.

No one likes a tattletale, and as we've pointed out lately, Siri has been losing ground to competitors like Google Assistant and Alexa.
