ZTE has been teasing us with its newest high-end models – the Grand S and the Nubia Z5, but it has been working on a cheaper alternative to them all along, as it now turns out. The ZTE U887, which is an Android smartphone that hasn't been given a fancier name yet, has a massive, 5-inch capacitive screen, exactly like the other two handsets we mentioned, but the LCD panel has a significantly lower pixel count. Its resolution is 800 by 480 pixels, just like the case is with the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Grand

The remainder of ZTE U887 hardware specs aren't going to impress you either. There is a 1.2GHz single-core processor powering the smartphone, paired with 512MB of RAM. You also get a 5-megapixel main camera and a VGA snapper up front. The measly 4GB of on-board storage is expandable with the use of a microSD card, and a 2,000mAh battery provides the juice to get you through the day. According to the smartphone's documentation, Android 2.3.5 comes pre-loaded.

China Mobile is among the carriers expected to get the ZTE U887 and we bet that its price will be nothing short of tempting, even though buyers will be getting what they pay for. Currently, there is no word regarding a launch in the U.S. or Europe, which is okay since we are a lot more excited about the ZTE Nubia Z5 and the ZTE Grand S anyway.
