You can now unlock and root your Nexus One
If you are into rooting your Android phone and stuff, then you will be glad to find out that there is a way now to unlock and root the latest and hottest of all Android smartphones, the HTC Nexus One, brought to you at the decent price of $179 by the kind folk at Google. However, let’s get back to rooting the Nexus One… well, if you want to know exactly how to do that you can watch the video below and follow the instructions. So what you get by rooting your Nexus One is basically the ability to install custom ROMs and applications that you can’t otherwise get if you are with the official software. Have in mind though that by doing this, you are voiding your warranty, so be extra careful, should you attempt at installing another firmware.

I thought the nexus one came unlocked, regardless of whether you buy it at $530 or $179.

The $530 is sold unlocked. The $179 is with contract with T-Mobile and is locked.
