Sony Xperia Z3 Compact to be cheaper than initially believed (at least in the UK)

Earlier this month, when Sony officially announced the Xperia Z3 Compact, the company said that the handset would be available to buy before the end of this quarter - at the same time with the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Tablet Compact. Sony even revealed pre-order prices for the Z3 Compact: £429 in the UK, and €499 in other European markets.

In case you think these prices are too high, we have good news: the Z3 Compact may cost less at launch. In fact, a few British retailers (including Clove and Handtec) are already listing lower pre-order prices for the handset: around £349 - which means €438. At the same time, however, Sony UK still lists the initial £429 pre-order price, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly how much the smartphone costs when it becomes available.

Just like the larger Xperia Z3, the Z3 Compact runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and offers a dust- and water-resistant body (IP68-certified). The Z3 Compact sports a 4.6-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, being powered by a quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. Other features: 20.7 MP rear camera with 4K video recording, 2.2 MP front-facing camera, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable internal memory, and a 2600 mAh battery. The smartphone will come in four color versions: black, white, red/orange, and green.
