Samsung leader Lee Jae-yong arrested on multiple allegations

The Seoul Central District Court has approved a warrant to arrest Lee Jae-yong, Samsung's vice chairman and effective leader. He is being detained over claims of bribing South Korean government officials. Lee allegedly paid $36 million to two foundations belonging to an aide of (now impeached) president Park Geun-hye, in order to guarantee presidential support for a merger of two Samsung holding companies.

The first warrant for Lee's arrest was issued back in January, but ended up rejected. But the case continued and new evidence incriminating the Samsung head was collected, leading to a second warrant and an arrest.

The list of charges against Lee includes embezzlement, bribery, perjury, concealment of criminal proceeds, and illicit transfer of assets abroad. He is currently held behind bars, and it could be as many as 18 months before his trial commences. Interim, the special prosecutor's office has set their sights on Samsung Electronics president Park Sang-jin, whose arrest warrant has been rejected today.

You wanna bet that Techie is already writing his essay in which he'll defend him and somehow blame Apple and maybe even Steve Jobs for all this chaos?

Lee runs Samsung Group. Techie doesn't believe Samsung Group has anything to do with Samsung Electronics. So, I don't think he'll believe it's worth a comment..

Never underestimate the Xpert. Maybe he shows. Maybe not. But when he does, lookout for stats and data with long essays. Calling people stupid and such.

I cant defend aomwone i dont know. I dont live in Korea.

If he ia guikty of a crime he ahould be punished as anyone else would be.

At least in Korea there CEOs get punished. In the US theuvare allowed to go free.

Look what Chase, Citi, AIG and others dis to rhe US economy. They all should be in jail. But theu got taxpayer bailouts, big bonus and a slap on the wrist fine.

Who would i defend a criminal?

You dont know me. Dont lrwtend younahve anybidea what i will say or do, because tou will always be wrong.

Dumbass!

I never said that.
What i did say is evwry Samsung company is thwir own company wirh the Group.

They each have their own owners and leader and they worl together.

I onlh saud Samsung Electronics is not a wholly owmed subsiduary of Samsung Group, like Samsing Display or SDI is to Samsung Electronics.

Tbey are inxependant companies that muat make thwir own moneubtp exist. If Samsung Electronics were to lose money, it woukd need ro borrow its own monie or sell assets to gwt money. SAMSUNG LTD, would not help them.

But if Samsung Display lost business, Samsunf can shorw up their lkses bu selling othwr products to compensate. Likenow Samsing makes more momey makomg components, as the mobile divisiom has lost money. Samsung Electronics is responsible for Damsunf Mobile
Samsung LTD is not responsible for Samsung Electronics. Which is all i ever said.

Ohh who gives a s**t anyway? This has nothing to do with their products. So just because some of us like to use their products, doesn't mean we think what this dude did....ofcourse he needs to go to jail if he has done something illegal.....

I'm never worried it will explode. If it was going to explode it qould have already.

Out of 2.5M only 30 actually did. Which means the other phone likely don't even have the defect. Samsung was simply playing it safe. Unlike other OEM's.

You're just mad because you don't have one.

Really? When Tim Cook refused to unlock the terrorist phone, I was for his decision in standing up and saying, no we won't create a Gov't backdoor to our software.

But I still suggested that they could have or maybe they shouldnt because if they do one, then they may as well do all.

Wrong is wrong. I have no false allegience to any corporations.

READ MY LIPS - ALL CORPORATIONS ARE EVIL. I don't care how small or big they are.

They are ALL greedy, they all commit criminal acts whether they get caught or not. They all have hurt their consumers on one level or another whether its intentional or not.

Several like Samsung, Apple, LG and others were busted for price fixing. That's evil.

Apple knowing sold faulty products. That makes them evil. Samsung had no way of knowing the Note 7 was faulty and when they found out they pulled it even before the CPSC told them too.

I could care less about corps in general. Samsung simply makes a product I've chosen to buy.

I don't understand everyone needs to give 2 cents about someones choice.

Choose what you like. Just don't make false statements or in Apple fans case, alternative facts to fit some stupid trolling agenda because I will call you out for it.

apple has had more employee suicides due to working conditions... and factories blowing up and killing people due to its working conditions than every other tech company combined.

btw, your incorrect about the arms of Samsung. It's like a giant octopus. While the arms themselves are independent entities to a point, they feed profits to Samsung HQ. The leadership group is what is under investigation. They lead every arm of Samsung, not just one.

This article has nothing to do with Android. Now if it was the head of Android development at Google being arrested then maybe you'd have a point.
