Report: iOS game revenues top dollars spent on games for dedicated players in Q1

Report: iOS game revenues top dollars spent on games for dedicated players in Q1
For the first quarter of this year, consumers spent more for games to be played over iOS devices than was spent for games to be played over dedicated handheld gaming units. The latter includes handheld models like the Sony PSP and the Nintendo 3DS. The report was released by IDC and App Annie. According to the report, this quarter will see spending in the Google Play Store for games also overtake spending on games for dedicated handheld gaming devices.

Games represented 40% of the downloads coming from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the first quarter. The top grossing game on both iOS and Android was the same title, Puzzle & Dragons. Rounding out the top five iOS games was Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga, Hay Day and The Simpsons: Tapped Out. For Android, after Puzzle & Dragons, the top five games consisted of Everybody Cha Cha Cha followed by Windrunner, Candy Crush Saga and Million Arthur.

According to the report,while iOS and Google Play saw Q1 increases in downloads, consumer spending and install base market share, all of these categories declined for handheld dedicated game players.

Puzzles & Dragons made most of its money in Asia, and only has a niche following here in America although it is growing fast, everyone we introduced the game to loved it including housewives and busy professionals who don't normally play games.

Truly the most amazing mobile game I have ever played, extremely satisfying to build up a collection of monsters and evolve/level them, even without paying real money. Also requires more skill than any other card/monster collecting game, you have to pull off 5-hit combos on-demand and it really test your finger and brain! This is the perfect example of how mobile games should be built.

The last game I spent real money and real hours on was World of Warcraft. Now with my schedule it is not possible and PND truly represent how mobile game should be done. Candy Crush Saga is joke in comparison.

where are they getting these stats? Candy Crush Saga is literally CRUSHING Puzzle and Dragons. 10+ million downloads for CCS vs 100k+ for P&D,

Yeah I never heard of PnD until now but Candy Crush Saga is everywhere. At home, in the office, when I'm out. Everyone's asking for lives LOL!

There are really so many phenomenal "casual" games on mobile right now.
It's impossible to pick out the best, but my favorite is probably the Bad Piggies

That is US only, the stats here is worldwide. PND dominates Asia where people tend to pay more.

I don't get it... I'm not paying any amount of money for a game I only play during my commute to/from work, or while I'm at a waiting room.
