Motorola has shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets in Q3

Motorola shipped only 100,000 Xoom tablets in the third quarter of the year. The sad number comes from Motorola Mobility’s third quarter results and is revealing about the fate of Android tablets. It should also be noted that the company hasn’t sold 100,000 in the last trimester, the number is for shipments only.

And when compared with Apple’s iPad? The number is almost discouraging - the iPad recorded sales of 11 million in the third quarter of the year.

On the positive note, though, we recently heard that the 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet by Motorola is expected to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but there’s no set timeline. The tablet started receiving LTE under an upgrade program only in late September, nearly half a year after its launch.

Wow.. didnt know that Moto had 100k employees. I mean they are the only ones buying the XOOMs right?

Notice it's shipped vs Apple has sold.

That is truly pathetic. I remember when the Xoom came out fandroids proclaimed it way superior to the iPad.

Taco50, I remember that too! I remember my boss telling me the iPad was a joke and the XOOM was the best things since the invention of toilet paper. I laught in his face when he bought one the fist day it came out....

I told him he owns a one of a kind because no one else has one...lol

I own a Ipad and a Xoom. I would buy another xoom if I could sell the Ipad. It has a true dual core processor and 1gb of ram. The screen is truely amazing and I can plug in a USB without some funky adapter that is a win all the way around. If you actually used a Xoom you would see that. It might not have the sell figure numbers of the Ipad, but that doesn't mean it is not a good product.

Android tabs are mainly copycats of Apple. They provide anything new or captivating beyond the ipad. The name "xoom" itself is a turn off.
