Microsoft fixes bug that was preventing Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 from installing correctly
Microsoft has apparently resolved a bug that was showing error code 8018830f, for some who were trying to install the Developer Preview version of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. On Thursday afternoon, those who had received the error message with the code, were being alerted that the latest build of Microsoft's mobile OS was ready, along with the first update, to be installed properly.

The repair by Microsoft might also help those who received an even rarer error message, 80188306, update their phones. So far, most of the fixes are taking place on Nokia Lumia 925 units that have already received the Lumia Cyan update.

Microsoft's Joe Belfiore has sent out a tweet, blaming a "packaging problem" for the error. He is telling those affected by the 8018830f message to try the update again, as it should now work.

I feel like these update problems are occurring with much greater frequency since the pc Windows 8.1 Update 1 that was released in early April and proved to be very problematic. This is either indicative of a change in culture and priorities or just a fluke streak.

This article is wrong!... This fix is for the preview to WP8.1, not the update preview to WP8.1..

I don't think so. Some Developer's Preview users were experiencing problems when upgrading to the Update 1 for WP 8.1; this is for that issue.

The more Windows Phone becomes like Windows, the more bugs and quality issues there will be. I'm sure you know Microsoft issues weekly patches to Windows that are known to screw up your PC.

Microsoft is a fat, lazy monopoly with leadership that is essentially a bunch of boneheads who play "game of thrones" all day to try and get better executive positions. The only rational thing to expect from such a company is low quality and high prices.

It has problems but not being able to install things with wacky old school 0x8 codes isn't one of them.

Nevertheless, it has problems, like you said, so I meant what I said!

odd, my 925 is able to get the latest updates from them. Try a master reset and sign in with an alias that is tied to your account (all settings etc will be the same so no loss of data)

Not fixed yet. Those on Developer's Preview with WP 8.1 have received the Update 1, but never yet received Cyan. We are still waiting on Microsoft to release a fix for the BitLocker issue (the reason why they halted the Cyan rollout for Developer's Preview). After they do that, then they will resume the Cyan rollout for us Dev Preview people.

The downgrade to 8.0 alternative is only good for those devices for which the official 8.1 + Cyan is available. For devices like mine (Lumia 928), we just have to wait patiently until Microsoft fixes the update issues and resumes the rollout.

Me too. I have to wait! It sucks to see they can fix another problem in days! But us waiting for an important firmware update(cyan) we have to wait forever! Ughh
